Stratified PRS

haha. i was actually pretty reluctant to touch it but den i wanted singles for my main guitar so i had to take certain measures. well my rules r as long as the mod is pretty much reversible den im up for it. only no drilling or touching my precious purple finish. :D

yeah ive seen both already. the 513 looked yummy except for that atrocious price tag of over 8k. same for the mordern eagle they had with that satin finish for over 9k. but im not too sure abt the price of the prs with p90s. i believe davis still stock some. nearly secured myself a mint prs recently for a really low price but ordered my other guitar already. dang.

Boy.. You're really hardcore for single coils. It's my first time seeing people converting a Humbuckered axe to singles. Why don't you just get a strat for the complete look.

Anyway if you're thinking of dumping those duncan distortion, drop me a PM. :)

well its not that i never considered a strat. but i dig flame tops and 24 frets. and how many of u have seen a 24 fret strat in the market? none i suppose. yes ive seen a few with HS configuration but i want both neck and bridge to be single. strange even why i would have chosen prs as my main guitar. i dun like the radius of most guitars except those with 7-10" radius cos i do loads of bending. i dont like floyd rose systems and i will only buy a 24 fret guitar.

yes ciel u may say that i have modded my guitar to put in a humbucker or a stacked single but the way in which kinman works is that there r 2 coils in the housing, but only one coil is string sensing. the other just serves the purpose of cancelling out noise. im not really a purist who will say that even if it sounds alike i will only stick with true single coils. as long as it sounds like singles to me ill buy them whether stacked or not. and btw the kinmans r even quieter than my previous humbuckers. and even my brother (bass player) could immediately hear the diff in my sound.

haha. neuro u prob missed my point in that super long chunk i wrote yesterday. i have already given up on the classic humbucker sound. its way too muddy for my taste. on rhythm all i get is chunk but on my kinmans i get sizzle. and a humbucker in the neck is impossible for rhythm unless clean. at least i thought neck was never for distorted rhythm until i put in the kinmans.

ahh bro u misunderstand me, im just saying i changed to singles in humbucker sized pickups as alternative option. dun wanan mess with making holders. i only recently came to be swayed to the single coil side of things. sad to say mine do hum which is getting on my nerves.

ah oops my bad. well there can be other ways. one way if ur pickup cavity is large enough is to drill an extra hole onto the original pickup ring. then buy extra singlecoil covers. tape the cover to the singlecoil u r installing to give that humbucker look. den install. from far enough it will look like humbuckers. u should try kinmans. absolutely the stuff.

Hmm.

hey good job.. but I'm interested in gettign kinmans for my Fender MIM tele... any links or places in S'pore to get them..?

gona try some stuff on my p94s, if i still dun like the vibe will switch to the harmonic design z90s. But that could take a while expensive stuff,

penta-tonic,

nice work. i think the best part of your modding is this: you can always revert back to using the humbuckers, your mod did not do any permanent changes on your PRS. cool. 8)

btw, does the maple top? + kinman combo gives a good sparkling clean tone?

My guess is that the mahogany back would suck a lot of the "sparkle" out of it. Clean probably yes but not as crisp and sharp. Probably sounds more P90 Les Paul or soapbar PRS than classic strat. By not slanting the bridge pup it probably sounds thin on the G/B/E strings. This sucker should should sound fat on the bass and bright on the highs and maybe lacking in the mids. Just guessing....leave it the penta-tonic to tell us.

ermmm.. P90s and the 513 is a wholly different thing you're talking about here
They are all single coil pickups right la??? So what's wholly different??

have you EVER seen a P90 or a 513
Well...ummm...yes I have. Show me yours and I'll show you mine

P90s are rawer edgier than usual single coils and are fatter, they lie inbetween the hums and singles sort of.
