strat or les paul

i would tread the fender path because should you need to revert to an all single coil set up, you just need to switch the fat strat´s scratchplate...

I would say get a super-strat style like Ibanez, in H-S-H position or S-S-H position. I would also suggest the Cort G290 (S-S-H), which has EMG SA for SC and EMG 89 for hum (coil splitable).

However at the end, it would depend on your style of music.

anyone has a fender? With real experience with a fender which has a humbucker. How does it go with overdrive/distortion? I have tried the highway one fat strat, it has a very wide variety of tones, and the humbucker seems to be perfect with a quite a fat tone, but not with heavy distortion yet.???

I went to try the epiphone les paul custom and black beauty, they are not very versatile, but they are great with heavy distiortion. CONFUSION....

I would suggest you play with both the strat and the lp for some time (beg, steal, borrow or shamelessly go stores to try out). Find out which one you feel more comfortable with (e.g. tone, feel) before you make a purchase. I wouldnt say the lp is not versatile, but maybe require more care than a hardy strat. Just my 2cts.

I’m a fan of the Highway1 strats- both the SSS & the SSH I like…

The SSH is kinda underpowered when it comes to high gain settings because of the default humbucker. The Atomic humbucker isn’t as reputable as a default Epi humbucker (which are original Gibsons by the way) & many players I’ve talked to in other forums vouch for its underperformance. I believe this is the reason why other humbucker strats in the upper offerings sport a Seymour Duncan instead…

Flyingbirdman- from your entries here, it seems that you are more comfy with the humbucker in an epi, it that’s the case, follow what your ears tell you.

As for me, I still prefer Fender…

The Showmaster are cool, but I can’t quite come to terms with a Fender sporting a Floyd whammy… it’s an acquired taste…

Enforcer/ Atomic- I prefer neither. Fender makes immaculate single coils, but IMO the same can’t be said for humbuckers. I’d rather you refer to Duncan/ Dimarzio for after market replacements. Next time you are @ Swee Lee give the Fender Tom Delonge strat a go, I simply like how the pickup’s (Duncan Invader) lower end inclination interacts with Fender’s trebly body resonance. But I wouldn’t invest in that guitar- it’s an overpriced Mexican…

i´ve got a fender 72 tele thinline custom. 2 wide range humbucks. neck pup rather muddy sounding, bridge nicely fat and crisp. But of course its a tele!
