okay so my LP's strap pin suddenly came loose! i think the threads of the hole has gone flat cause i can just pull the screw out easily.. what do you think i should do to fix this? or should i just go send for repairs.. who should i send to?

easy..take out the screw..cut up some toothpicks...slot it in..apply a teeny weeny bit of white glue..and ur good to go..

worked well for me.

get a satay stick (bamboo type), cut off about 2cm of it and insert into plug hole

then rescrew again

yep just stuff a satay stick or toothpick into the hole with glue and your good to go. works great for me too!

yah maybe you should send to a qualified luthier - ME..haha that will be $35 service fee

so if i send to you will you do the same thing? stuff toothpicks in? haha
do the qualified luthiers also use the same method to fix this?

guitar

i encountered this problem too.just put wood filler into the hole.and put in a guitar string maybe 42 into the hole with the wood filler in it to make the hole for the screw.leave it to harden.after that take the string out and screw back the screw.leave the strap button alone for 1 or 2 days.then you can start using it again. :D

wood filler doesnt work for me, it sort of powdery, it take less than a day to get the pin out without a screwdriver. maybe i got inferior wood filler

Most secure method is fill with epoxy. That one you die die want the strap pin to come out it won't even budge

The toothpick method works because it acts as a wedge and a source of new wood for the strap screw to cut new threads into. By right you won't even need to add glue because it's so tight, the toothpick is literally jammed inside. Just give it a try because it's a perfectly reversible mod. You would be amazed at how hard it is to try to screw the screw in (pun intended  ) with the toothpick inside.

Wood filler got too many different types to list already. lachiplo I guess that the one you have is made out of wood sawdust suspended in normal white glue (water based). Water based wood filler won't be as strong as those industrial type grade.

hey buddy, there are many ways to do this, toothpick/satay stick is one way. What it does it that it fills up the screw hole which is too loose.

imho it's not very reliable, it's reliable for other applications but might not last worry-free in bearing the weight of the guitar.

What i use is that red rubber ring used in mounting photo hooks on the wall.

Alternatively, find an old cable, and rip off the thick insulating rubber-casing, cut it open and roll it into a smaller tube, stuff it into the hole till there's no space left, then screw your strap pin in.

Rubber compresses better than wood, hence it will hold better than toothpicks.

hope that helps.

so if i send to you will you do the same thing? stuff toothpicks in? haha

yes - but you'll be $35 poorer.

Just get satay stick, cut 1 1/2 to 2 cm (depending length of your screw) dip in wood glue, insert into hold & resrew your pin/ screw

safest way - coz wood fillwer shrinks

remember to use "tonewood" toothpick or satay sticks

if you use ordinary toothpick, prob will not be good for the tone
and may affect the sustain of guitar.

For lespauls, i think mahogany toothpicks are the best.
