Strap Locks.

just dropped my guitar recently after the strap came off and was :shock::!::mad: after that..luckily nt much damage was done except for the nut at the jack becoming a little loose coz of the cable exerting the force on the nut and bending it. i manage to tighten it nonetheless. so i decided tat that i should probaly get myself a pair of strap locks. the dunlop, schaller and planetwaves straplocks seem to be the most popular frm searching off soft.Anyway, which do you think is the best, where cn i get it and abt hw much.the ernie ball strap locks seem kinda cool too, anyone tried/own it? btw my guitar is a cort m200(prs copy),so pair tat fits well will be better(i do not wish to drill hole or anything unless absolutely essential).
Tks in advance...

Just force it in, can just force screw the thing in even if the screw given in the straplock package is too long.

I'm using the Jim Dunlop one, all my guitars are fitted with them. Good enough to last me forever? :S

Right now my guitars are using dunlops, except for one which has warwick straplocks. I think most major guitar shops should have it, got mine from swee lee for i can't remember how much:???: Anyway, the dunlops are pretty darn secure, they don't look like they'll come apart anytime soon. One thing I disliked about it however, is that it's kinda hard to attach the strap half of the lock to the strap, as you have to wedge a piece in to hold it in place, and it's a very tight fit. But if it's that hard to attach, it's definitely not gonna slip off the strap!

The warwick straplocks are easier to attach to the strap, it uses a nut and bolt system. However, naturally it's also easier for the nut to become undone, however i think it'll be highly unlikely for that to happen.

Can't comment on the schallers or planet waves, as I have no experience with them

Oh, and one more advantage the dunlop has over the warwick is that due to the shape of the strap pin, you can use normal straps without the locking bits attached to it on the dunlop, but not on the planet waves

EDIT: My Bad. Wrong Info.

My bad. Gave the wrong info on the earlier post. Those were warwick locks, not planet waves.

The planet waves locks are actually an entire strap, then the locking mechanism is built into the strap. Therefore, you don't have to actually change your strap pin. However there are some guitars it won't work with, like PRS IIRC.

Planet Waves Straplock

i use them ernie ball straplocks

firstly:
- they are much sexier looking then those stupid dunlop ones
- much easier to install than the dunlop ones (just screw on the nut)

do you hav to drill hole to put it the new button? coz i was watching the vid by ernie ball on hw to install and they drilled a hole into the guitar to fit the screw. n any other major problems?

no.. no drilling needs to be done. just use the holes that are already drilled for the original strap buttons.

HOWEVER

this is the thing abt straplocks. it depends on the guitar u use. for me my gibson les paul.. it was pain in the ass. because the screw used for the stock strap button is bigger than the screws given with the straplocks when u buy it. so if u do install the new screw into that hole which requires a bigger screw, u're going to have a loose strap button.

so what i did was i had to find a screw that can fit the new straplock button as well as fit snuggly into the hole in the guitar.

if u're going to ask if the strap lock screw is going to fit onto ur guitar. i'm sorry i dont know..

hmmm i was thinking..isnt it more worth it if i get the planet waves lock straps? i expect it to be around the same price as the ernie ball one bt i get an entire strap instead rite? unless those really suck

Happened to my BFG. I forced it in :p Screwdriver ate up the grooves lmao.

IMO I'm not really a fan of those straps with the locks on them except for the Dimarzio Cliplocks. But alot of people will argue that they'll scratch the guitars finish but on both my LPs they've stayed scratch free though..

I read somewhere that putting in match sticks can help solve this.

i use marvel strap locks on both my mockingbirds, for the acrylic because of the mentioned-many-times-over problem of hole too big for the screw i simply super glue it. (since super glue is advertised to be able to stick like an elephant so i assume it doesn't fall off, and it had never did)

marvel strap locks cost me like 14 each, i can't really remember but its much cheapr than dunlop or schaller or all those. And it's available in shiny gold and chrome
