stick tip

diff shaped tips brings out diff type of tones of ur instruments.... also the way u hit it and many other factors.. but mainly tone of ur instruments.

Yes, basically it just affects the sound of ur cymbals.

I personally prefer the round tip coz it sounds the same no matter wat angle ur hitting the cymbals (coz its round).

There are some resources online which try to describe the differences, but the best is still to try it out with your own ears :)

Tip shapes
The main factor affecting the overall sound the stick will make on drums & cymbals.
Here is a list of different available tip shapes and the sounds they will produce:
  1. Tear drop; rich dark tones, focused lows.
  2. Barrel; full punchy sound, for loud volumes.
  3. Ball; clean bright & articulate sounds.
  4. Acorn; full, fat sound very responsive.
  5. Oval: broad mid-range sound.
  6. Nylon tips; brighter than wood & more durable.

Selecting The Right Drumstick Tip

Well on drumsticks maybe it comes with experience but stick tip types do affect the speed and the control of your sticks and indirectly affect your playing and your accuracy... ohh depending on your setup as well you will have to consider either using nylon heads or just normal wooden heads okie quick example... if you are on a set with a 101 paiste and ur using a nylon head the sound will most definately be too bright for certain settings creating the most undesirable overtones on the other hand k customs due to its "dark" nature usually works well with nylon heads... its all about the effect you wish to create in the type of atmosphere your creating it in.. hall, auditorium, studio or room or perhaps live... thats why most drummers come prepared with various sticks different shape tips... knowing your sticks can really save your performance since most of the time you cant play with you home kit at live gigs =) all the best in ur persuit =)
btw added tip! the type of wood also counts in creating the sound you want... experiment =)
