stack Overdrive pedal recommendations

Helo fellow softies... I need your help.. =) need you guys to help me decide on what to get... I am currently using a VS JnH(v.2) and a boss ds1.. my boss ds1(DIY keeley mod from geocities), is too kranky and crunchy and so it is not good to stack as my bandmates complains a lot when i switch it on...

and so I've been using the JnH at a fixed setting of putting all to 11 o clok.. and the gain at 3 o clok for the drive(forget whether it is the od o dist one)... i am using a cij fender strat and a MIK epi LP currently.. so I was thinking of getting a good stacked OD after the JnH OD being switched on...

my budget is 100(but is okay if the pedal cost more than 100, i can save).. thinking of getting a second hand pedal... I was thinking of getting a pedal that is not crunchy and kranky.. but I have no idea what to get..

the tone wise will be not crunchy, good soft gain, mild(lil dirt), not like the boss BD-2... wanted to use this pedal to increase its power in overtunes....

lol.... i see... but i love stacking.... haha... seeing all the bright lights shinning at you... haha... jk....will consider to do that if this stacking fails....

Hmm.

Is there a sound you have in mind that we can reference to in terms of the sound you hear in your head?

For most parts the reason why people stack pedals is such that you can have a big and crunchy rhythm tone that gets a big boost in gain the moment you activate another pedal that is before it:

guitar > gain booster > distortion/overdrive > amp

There are plenty of pedals which offer purely a gain boost: EHX LPB-1, Seymour duncan Pickup Booster, MXR Micro Amp etc

If you're after the classic combination of a mild overdrive boosting a mid-gain distortion pedal, I would suggest you try using something like a Tubescreamer variant which boosts the gain and has a slight mid hump to help you cut through the mix when doing a solo.

Just do some research of TS-variants. Go Google?

the sound in my head will be... thicker mildy sound with gain.... like a small booster with more gain and tone... i think should be the tubescreamer sound... haha... ok2.. thnx a lot guys.... will google =)

thnx a lot.. haha.. but i wondering get which one... my JnH setting sounds lik a TS808 so i nt sure to stack ts yet but i will go and check it out... =) thnx...

if i turn the ds-1 gain down.. then whats the use of the mod.... haha.... so is nt gona happen... haha... i am bored of that ds1 rdy haha...

Get a Digitech Bad Monkey overdrive? It's not crunchy unless you max out the gain, though it's a pretty powerful overdrive. It's like a tubescreamer, or at least it was designed to be a tubescreamer-style overdrive. Should be very easy to get second hand (or even first hand, a brand new one costs slightly over 100 if I remember correctly) with your budget.

And it 'stacks' well, too. I got a great Mastodon tone when I ran it together with my HM-200 (heavy distortion pedal).

+1 Bad Monkey as well.

There is this inherent squeak in most Digitech pedal I tried that I find rather irritating, though, but that is just me being anal. Heh.

hahaha you really have no idea how to stack do you? turn the gain down on your boost pedal and half the gain on the main dirt pedal

oh dear. u have no idea how stacking works dont you?

when u stack, ur ds-1 is behind ur primary drive. turn the level full and turn the gain down really low or even zero. thats called clean boosting. it gives ur tone more punch and gain and volume for solos.

stacking is not putting 2 drive pedals together turning both gain knobs full. go try that u see what will happen.

Put your JnH before your DS-1 , turn the gain of the Jnh down and the gain of the ds-1 at mid
