squire strat or ephiphone sg?

Hmm I have one question... what's the difference between a squier standard series strat, and a squier affinity series strat?

affinity body - alder, standard - agathis
affinity nut - 1mm narrower
affinity trem - standard 6 screw, standard - twin pivot
standard - alnico pickups

other stuff thats not so important.
affinity - black silk screen logo, plain neckplate
standard - gold decal, engraved neckplate

HAHA. i bought mine from one of those swee lee sales damn long ago. 99 dollars for the guitar. The guitar has one pickup only la.

you forgot the most important difference.....

22 frets!!! i'm such a bitch when i go for strats, its either 22 frets or nothing, and i hate it when shop owners turn around and tell me wtf i need so many frets, its only 22, not 24

hmmm, if ur not look conscious i would advise you to go for the squier. im using a squier strat now and it really has been a faithful companion to me, so far it hasn't given me any problems. after seeing the lower end epi sg's, i personally think they are not worth the cash, unless you are comparing the higer end models, for eg the tony iommi model

The largest difference between the 2 would be that the strat has a distinct single-coil tone and feel to it, and the SG would play and sound like a humbuckered guitar. I think maybe you could borrow a friend's guitar or something, play around with it, and figure out what you're more comfy with before you commit. Heh.. just trying both guitars for 10 minutes each in a crowded guitar store is not the best way to make a purchase...

Personally, the Epis look pretty well-built, and the pups are pretty passable, for that kind of money. If you're getting the epi, then do splash out a bit more for the setneck versions. Thats the best thing about Epis. You can get a decent setneck guitar (which looks good too) for a pretty good price. Happy shopping!

brand conscious leh...

squier makes good guitars these days.

agrees....i'm using a J&D SG...serves me well enough...i just wanna advice to the threadstarter that....if u were to buy an SG...it would be neck heavy and really diff to play leads...but u may drill a hole at the upper horn just like what i have done :P
