Squier 51' Thread

got the bridge pickup changed.

I'm thinking of a bigsby so that I can have some tremlo arm as opposed to my hardtail tele.
Bought the neck for about 400 i think.
Got it off the shop at the side of sweelee in bras basah. Forgot the name though.

My mods officially cost more than the guitar, considering I nicked it at a sweelee sale.

you guys know whether installing the super v vibrato system on a 51 is a greenlight?do i need to do anything to my guitar's body?like making new cavities and stuff?im really liking what i read about the supervee system and i saw davis carries them.i wanna install them but have certain doubts.

here's a link of the super vee vibrato system.local modders,do give your thoughts.

or is there any similar products like these "FLOYD ROSE" systems out there that are much simpler in installing?reasons for installing a new bridge system due to the fact that my 51' has some bridge problems.the screws on the string adjustment saddles tend to fallout when i play everytime and it has become a nuisance for me.i need to change it quick.

I personally don't think it's worth it. The mod will probably cost more than the guitar especially if you factor in the labor. It looks like major surgery in that you would need to route the body to accommodate the hardware. IMO the nicest mods done to a '51 were fairly simple, the most complicated of which would probably be a new paint job (surf green or daphne blue would be awesome) and a custom cut pickguard. IMHO of course.

Yes I do. The mods I've done to date are as follows:
- Changed tuners to GFS black tuners
- Swapped the nut for a Graphtec
- Changed the bridge to a GFS top-loader
- Installed a LP pickup switch on where the pickup rotary switch used to be
- Changed the volume knob to a 500k/500k dual concentric knob so I can have vol and tone. Lost the coil tap ability though (wasn't using it as much anyway)

I also have a GFS Vintage Liverpool and a GFS Fatbody tele neck pickup just waiting to be installed...had it for a month already but been really busy so no time to go to Beez or TYmusic to have it installed.

Of the mods I've done so far, I highly recommend the bridge and nut change. Huge difference. Having a tone knob has also been a great addition, but if you like a cleaner look (at the expense of some slight routing), look into the IanRich control plate. Not cheap, but looks very elegant. A tele control plate could also be used but would require even more routing than the IanRich plate.

thats nice!your bridge and nuts, where'd you get them from who you turned to to install them?how much was your total expenditure for those mods?

Bridge and tuners from GFS. I installed the bridge myself. Tuners, nut, and the rest of the mods (particularly those dealing with the wiring/switching) were done by TYMC. Excellent guys to deal with those two. I have no hesitations recommending them.
