soundproofing

yeah its quite hard... sound proofing requires full effort to get slightest results

put in only a lil effort (like carpetting floor) might yield a -1 db result... theres still gonna be a few more dbs to go...

hmm seems like a good market this thing... maybe i'll research and develop a cheap ultra sound absorber... may make loads of $$$

Materials like lead sheet, vinyl insulate. Wooden fibre board, polystrene foam, gypsum board + glass wool of various density can insulate as well as absorb. Polyeurethane sponge and straw mat absorb. Thick curtain cuts the bouncing.

would like putting a thick curtain over the window, and some matresses in front of the drumset be pretty good?

what u gonna put? king coil? O_O

nah, actually, its a good idea, but how u gonna put it over the drum? the noise will still travel upwards

i think i'm like.. gonna buy 5 mattresses. then surround the whole drumset in a cage manner. then cover the top with the mattress, then the top mattress drill a hole then put a wire through for a light bulb.
then i'll die without oxygen there.

sigh.. how how how how...no money man

To truly soundproof a room would require the construction of a room within a room. Sort of 'floating' a room inside another, with the empty air spaces absorbing most of the sound.

Still, despite how much reconstruction work you can do, it's impossible to fully soundproof a room where you'll have such loud acoustic instruments going on inside. Most of the leaked sound would still depend on, say... the heavy afternoon traffic going on outside, which will hopefully drown off whatever leaks out from your soundproofed room.

haha ok.

man that's not cheap.

yeah i guess i'll try noise pollution for awhile, and if it doesn't work out, back to the mesh heads haha.

Does building a platform for the drum set help to soundproof?

How does it really sound like, to the neighbors one level below you, with and without the platform?

Just curious.

dont think it reali helps.just place some carpets below.it blocks most of the sound away.i think without the platform would be better.just get thick carpets and stick them everywhere.its cheap and gooood.

How bout those pads you put on the drum parts ... Those things that silence them ... Still need to soundproof if you use those?

probably like the HQ sound-off or something i guess.

anyway, thanks for the input! i'll either stick with my rhythm traveller or get a reasonably good electronic set (yamaha :( , which is reasonably expensive too). tried the sound pollution thing for like 10 seconds and decided, NO. Haha. thank God i can still practice the real thing in church.

anyways, can't get the new set at the moment, gotta wait until i get out of army, or else cannot maintain them! haha... aww man. army.

err...if u wanna heard the real sound from the kits, try get the sound off mute pad from nigel at drum resource...coz it is made of soft rubber and it only mute away 20-30 % or the kits...if u dun mind the drum to have no echo, u can get the lazer rubber pad. it is hard and really mute the sound off. ( im using it though :D )

im like u when i first got my kits...ask around for sound proofing method and realise no way u can get a good sound proof unless u really spend like ...10k??

so i got a rubber pad and it work for me very well...for couple of months since i got my kits i got no complains from my neighbour. but be considerate enough to stop ur drumming at 9.30 ^ ^

a mesh head give u a better feel but a total no sound on ur kits...quite boring though...a rubber pad can produce 'some sound and u can actually hear wad u r playing although it is like ' pak pak pak', but ...some sound lah :p mayb some time u can remove they and play. check out when ur neighbour below u is not at home and play it out at a considerable volume...try to put carpet or those sponge pad where kids play( those with ABC that kind) and place it under ur bass drum to mute off the vibration...im using the sponge....

hope this help u ^ ^

Cheers!!!

hey, how about the ones beside man

you guys are lucky, only to mention the ones up and downstairs . Haha !

Theres another flat just next to my room and when times are bad, that guy next door will just bang the wall inbetween us just to shut me up. The banging will go non stop man, its more noisy than me drumming !

I guess if theres no wall between us, he will just kill me !
