Those videos showed Sonny when he was younger. He is a lot better and has style has mellowed with a lot of "I know I am good and I dont even have to show it".

He is great and that is an understatement. I watched him perform with Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers in a live concert 3 Nights on the town NYC 04 on DVD and he is just amazing...

His stick-twirling acts are definitely a must-see.

To those who were at Sonny's last night - HOW ABOUT THEM STICK TWIRLING ? Amazing, aint it ?

As he said - this drummer is really a musician and showed how he can engage the minds of the audience. Well-worth every single cent !

This clinic by Sonny is probably the most entertaining drum clinic I've ever been to till date. To comment on his drumming techniques and musicality is almost unnecessary, we all know how sick on drums this master is.

However, his drumming prowess aside, what really impressed me was his willingness to share! This guy has a heart of gold, no airs no ego and really patient with everyone throwing questions onto the floor. He's also very sincere with giving advice to the questions and giving back more for whatever questions asked. I've gained a mountain just by sitting there for almost 2 1/2 hours.

i really liked that 45min solo he gave at the start. He starts right in real deep pocket groove and moves out just as quickly. In the dozen or so rhythms he cycled through, his mastery is complete. african, latin, r&b rhythms, he plays with conviction and fire.

one of our softies rajiv asked him about that colorado bulldog style shuffle rhythm and he plays it back like he's been doing it non-stop for the last hour.


from the way he carries himself though, he comes across as gentle and sophisticated, like a seasoned LA cat. playing with bette midler in las vegas currently! :mrgreen:

The solo episode is very good I think he have the ability to become a super star!
