Hi all, i was just wondering how many of u write songs. What is the kind of song that will attract u the most?

hi Yan...

u seems interested abt songwriting... 8O well, I'm a songwriter 8) here, not commercially but only for my band. For me, music/songs expressing a lot of inner, hidden emotions are appealing to me...I'm more into pop/rock/classical/blues... how abt you?

Im a songwriter too. I'm in search of the perfect song altho i know there isn't one. Anyway, i have loads of 1/2 complete songs with no lyrics. Some of them are meant to have lyrics but i just can't write them. I'm better at just the music. I have a few good attempts at words but it's like trying to squeeze blood from a stone most of the time.

Yea I write them, both instrumental and lyric-al. You can check them out at the link in my sig below. I think a song with good lyrics can't be just 'i love you i hate you i'm sorryyy i can't be perfect' and stuff like that, they need to have a deeper meaning.

A band with good lyrics would be Bright Eyes, check them out.

i often write crap. check this out. muahahah

Dick

My name is Dick
I'm not a Prick
Just an 18 year old
Who loves to be hit

My friends say I'm
A walking stick
With a thousand zits
Which I love to dig

I'm strong not meek
Though a little sick
I love to shit
On Uncle Bob's feet

I love fried meat
With some garlic
Like a fatty pig
Finding something to eat

I play in a gigg
I'll always sing
Soar with my wings
My name is Dick

Try writing the lyrics first and add the melody into it. I find completing a song faster and easier that way. I also find songs produce in this manner more...."Singable" that way.

hahahahaha...Kelvin...dude...that's really crappy...and itz so crappy itz funny...hahahahahahahaha...

Unfortunately...I was drinking milk at the time...almost had to clean up my computer...

Muackz to all...

Hi gackthoe,

I kinda just started to do abit of songwriting...not very good though. Do u have a website for ur band? Really would like to listen to some of ur songs. Will u be performing somewhere soon? So far the style of my songs are - a guitar and a voice. I'm more to the Alternative rock side. :D

I totally agree with u. Songwrtiing has a deeper meaning. Its about getting connected with people whereby ur listeners can identify with u. Something very simple and yet a difficult thing to achieve.(thats what i think)

Hi, it is good that we begin a FORUM on songwriting. There are a few of us in SGP doing this and we should talk more about it, and "encourage" the group. I do THEATRE SONGS, Commercials, MultiMedia MUSIC, Corporate Songs, GOSPEL. You can call me at 9800-3580 if you wish to talk "live." 20040430 601am. EMAIL: dmoey@pacific.net.sg

hmmm... about writing lyrics first, or writing melody first. answer is simple.

Go withthe flow. If u started singing something u like a damn lot, dun't stop, finish singing it, and record it down.

If u started with the guitar/keyboard, dun't stop. go on. finish the song, then write it down.

that way, it flows. whatever the meaning, whatever the tune, it MUST FLOW. if it doesn't, then it sucks. music is like oxygen. It must flow steadily and constantly. Stop for a while, and the freakin patient dies.

I do have one question though...I'm more a lyricsist...though I'm not really good at it...but what do you guys do when you get to a line...and your thoughts come to a full-stop...but for the song...itz more of a comma...and the ending is just so abrupt...what next?how do you cure that?do you rewrite the whole verse??If not...what do you do?

Muackz to all...

hmmm personally i'll resing the phrase/verse until something gets into my head, and i like it. if i can't get that desired effect, then only i'll rewrite the verse.

well i think it depends on yourself, you decide how you want to continue the song. if you can't think of anything, just keep reading the lines that you have and see how you can form more lines out of them, maybe to add more meaning to the song or something.

Hi Tammi,

Maybe u could try this website for more information--->
http://www.lyricalline.com/

I would encourage u to keep editing and re-writing it. Sometimes or even most of the times, ideas of a song can comes in a package (the melody and the lyrics together) but if they don't, u'll have to keep re-writing it.

Hope the website helps! Go to their forum, they have people posting up their lyrics. Its quite a good place to learn from it.

goodness...you guys are so generous...thanks dude...I can't help but ask though...did anyone have any situation where they felt that the song simply can't go on...but in the end it turned out to be one of their best works??

Muackz to all...
