LOL! funny thing you reply that answer.
seriously, its fun if you got big idea and also passion for songwriting.
its no use if you take songwriting courses/workshops if you don't have passion or whatever.
I write songs and that was the reason I said songwriting is FRICKIN F-U-N!
haha..yeh, sure its fun,you get to play with ur thoughts...then something like this:
"ooo..yeah..i got cool lyrics...ahh..wait...does this rhyme...mmmmm(after a few minutes),,shoot doesnt fit the song...bummer....or shud i put gibberish in..hehe"
i do a lot of gibberish at church...to give joy to friends and to make fun of them but in a good way..................:-D
i write when i feel compelled to about a certain topic, and it can be from anything random that catches my eye, or a lingering thought. for me, its always lyrics first, then music.
for me lyric always comes first. Then the more i think about it, the melody slowly appears from no where and rings in my head.
Woahahahahah sound like a genius )
I get riffs rather often, i ditch about 4 out of 5 because their not good. Then more riffs will come, fit them together for a song! After the instruments parts are done, i find that the vocal melodies can appear out of nowhere.
One of my fav artistes Paul Simon - when he recorded the Graceland and Rhythem of the Saints albums, he actually recorded the drum and percussion tracks first and THEN thought ot the concept, melody, song structure and lyrics to work around the rhythem.
He actually brought hours of recorded percussion stuff back to New York from Africa and Brazil and spent 2-3 years writing the tunes.
