Somethings I've always sucked at...

Singing and playing at the same time. Can't do it. Even simple things, like 1, 2, 3, 4 on a C chord then switch to G - 1, 2, 3, 4.

It's something to do with the brain wiring. Not everyone can do it and for those unlucky few (me) they will never be able to... :(

Anyone else suffer this and consequently is 'just' a guitarist (lead/rhythm)?

hahaha, not only some guitarists' syndrome. some pianists have that problem too! cannot talk and play at the same time. will end up talking in pace with the playing too! eg. howww areee you? iiiiii ammm fine... then must wait for another interval before talking again, in accordance with the timing of the piece! :smt037

There was a period of time when voodoo child posed a major problem. That simple singing and playing lick threw me off. I only started to get better earlier when i forced myself to try and sing while playing Metallica songs such as One, Nothing Else Matters and stuff like that when i was hot into the band Even though James Hetfield isn't the best of guitarists he's one of the better examples of singing playing. Hendrix is still king of that though :D

I can face the fella and talk to him while my fingers are caressing the keyboard

But that's if i know how to play the song very well

Forgot to mention. I have a feeling classical guitarists have this ability as well. They somehow have much better coordination. My ex teacher never fails to amaze me in that aspect by playing the famed Asturias and speaking to me at the same time.

Dave Mustaine is IMO the best at singing and playing. (even though he's not much of a singer).
The ease at which he sings and plays those mind-boggling riffs at the same time is incredible...

a friend once told me about this bassist in perth, Dane Alderson of this jazz fusion band called K who shredded his solo and sang harmony at a fifth along with it. only 21 or 22 years old.

ahhh... that's nice, playing bass and singing, like sting!... i've always think that's the coolest thing a vox can do. im sick of seeing frontman sing n play guitar.

Agree - how the hell does he do that? It's amazing.

Nah- I also play classical guitar and can't do anything else while playing.

If someone speaks to me, I have to stop to answer them or the tune goes wrong. :)

Yeah man its hard. Jack Black does it pretty good lol. BUt then again if he screws us KG probably covers for him
