Hey everyone, i'm now deciding whether to get the ibanez RGT42DX or sumthing else, however, i can't find anywhere to try the axe out. I've tried Swee Lee and a few other shops but they all do not stock this, anyone can help me by telling me where i can try it out?

and btw, i'm also considering the RGT32FM, can anyone tell me which is a better choice?

thanks in advance

How come everyone buys IBANEZ? IMO theres not character linked with those guitars. I mean, its like each other model looks the same but has a different model number. I cant even tell the difference. Anyone enlighten me on why Ibanez is so popular?

Cause I thought Fenders and Gibsons where the most popular.

'Coz Ibanez is probably the most affordable yet good (according to most) locally.

But of course, I don't have an Ibanez and don't wish to have one.

That only tells me that its something to get cus everyone else has one and its not a guitar that when someone sees it they'll be like, eeeeee its and Ibanez, cus everyone has one. I've never actually played an Ibanez b4, even though Ive had the chance i just didnt feel the urge to try it cus it didnt appeal to me. I picked up the Stratocaster next to it.

Firstly, I think the Ibanezes have a very wide range of guitars for all sorts of budget. They're widely available, comes in all sorts of configurations, etc. Probably that contributes to more people buying them.

Surprise, surprise...my first electric guitar is an early 90s Ibanez Artist...which is still one of my best guitar around, among my Gibson and Fenders.

Sorry threadstarter

Ibanez is popular probably due to the wide range of choices and prices. And of cause the many other factors like AANJ, wizard neck, edge bridge, pickup configuration etc. It is definetly not because "everybody has 1 so i also want". I believe there are many out there that swear by their Ibanez.

I think the RGT32 is quite hard to come by, can try looking for 2nd hand model. You may also try Ishibashi if you really need the guitar urgently. Think they should have stock for both RGTs.

hmmz... try to get RGT42.. instead of 32...

RGT32 came with the LO-trs II... which isnt really veri stable... while the 42 come with an edge pro.... the other specs are fairly the same except the stock pickup... but trem wise the 42 is much better.... hmmz u tried All Music?? i saw the RGT32 there... but dint see the RGT42.. u may ask the person... she might has stock which is not displayed...

btw.. i owned both ... sold the RGT32... but RGT42 will be with me for long... so my recommandation is the RGT42... :)

cheers Hideto and Marksman.. k then i'll go with the RGT42DX.. i've tried testing at All Music.. Lily said she never bring in, only can order. so i can't find anywhere to test it now. this sucks man :(

Anyone explain to me the meaning behind all the numbers? I would be open to trying out Ibanez. Theres always a first time for something.

Someone recommend me a great Ibanez to try out?

BadgerS88: I mean, its like each other model looks the same but has a different model number. I cant even tell the difference.

oh, it happens to Fenders & Les Pauls as well, yes?

Ditto.

Have you played a Wizard 2 neck before? If not, got try out the RG350 or something with wizard2s (think most of the korean made Ibanezs are wizard 2). It's quite chunky compared to the wizard.

For the trem, as mentioned by Hideto, stay away from the Lo-TRS. It's really not very stable.

Also note that since it's a neck-thru, the mahogany wings dun make much of a diff in the tone. Maple is pretty bright sounding, leh...

imho just get those Ibanez guitars that are equipped with Edge or Lo-Pro Edge FR bridges if you are into heavy whammy-ing stuff. they are known to be the most stable FR bridges around in the market. its better than splashing a few hundred on a guitar and spending another $300 just to replace the bridge with a more stable one.

if you manage to find a Japan made Ibanez ( excluding signature series, J Customs and Prestige models ) and you are looking for a guitar below a budget of $1000, I say grab it. it would most definitely be a player's guitar. Ibanez guitars are currently made in Korea and Indonesia so yeah.

Ibanez has always been good and affordable. I used to swear by my MIA Fender stratocaster before I layed my hands on an RG550. honestly speaking, the Ibanez guitar's basswood sounded louder than the stratocaster's alder body when I strummed them unplugged. after that experience of owning both guitars before, I can safely conclude that Ibanez uses good wood to make their guitars.

oh by the way, if you dont like slim necks, do no even bother with the RG series  .

if you have around $3000 to spare, I say aim for a J custom. the killer looks and neck feel is to die for. more than $1000, get the prestige series. less than that would be your regular RGs and Ss. oh by the way, the prices that I've stated are more towards the 2nd hand market prices.

after straying all the way out of point, its back to the topic at hand. in terms of specifications I would say RGT42 would be the wiser choice. it is updated with the more stable Edge III bridge. of course, the 2nd hand market is still the best place to scout for better deals. my advice is, just be patient and keep your eyes peeled on the classifieds.

the wing body material does matter in terms of resonance & sustain supplement. if it doesn't, manufacturers would just stick plastic/ foam to their through neck guitars since it doesn't matter any way...
