Smooth by Carlos Santana

Hi guys...haven't been posting much..anyway..im wondering if there's any way to remember songs that are long...im kinda forgetful espically if there are no chord progressions...take Smooth for example...with all the fills..i cant really get it in my head...been praticing the song for weeks...

any suggestions or tips would help..thanks..

Hmmm.. you can try breaking an entire song into intro, verse 1, chorus 1, verse 2, chorus 2, bridge, chorus (repeat), outro. Songs are usually written in this manner, but depending on the composer, the number of verses and choruses may differ. For each of this part, especially Santana songs, the notes being played will differ. Santana doesn't stick to the same notes for repeated choruses, so you have to remember the pieces of this entire jigsaw. Hope this little bit of info helped. :)

ya...its mainly fills...i managed to compress the fills to groups so just number them acording to the verses and choruses...thanks anyway..

Yeah that's a good way to start! :)

Carlos Santana is really one of a kind. Firstly, even though there's isn't shredding, his tone and playing adds to the soul of the music. I love his fills, really fantastic. His recent collaborations with Rob Thomas, Wycleaf Jean and Michelle Branch really showed his influence in the music world today still.. :)

Heya.. i m learning the same song too... but this song isnt tht complicating yet.. yeah.. the jigsaw like fills is indeed intimidating..

This song has alot of wide intervals.. so u only need to dissect it and practise one part till u are really farmilliar with it and move on to the next... when playing the next one.. play the entire song again from the first part till the part u remembered..

after couple of time u shud be able to remember... thts my 0.2cents

I m not done with the song.. but 80% done since 29th the second day after i bought my electric guitar... so i hope this helps...

i love satana's new song with steve tyler...the song is Just Feel Better...damn..i love tt song

No offence but i can't take the new santana stuff ... he's trying too hard to collaborate with all these new bands so that he will probably have better album sales, but it sucks for those who prefer his more instrumental songs ..

Hmm.. according to one of his interview, the album works this way:

1/2 - given by producer or some big mojos of some sort...
the other half - produced by santana which is really santana stuff...

Thts wat i read on the newspaper interview previously... so probably some stuff are thrown in by the producers....

I heard on the radio today that Santana's new collaboration with Michelle Branch was kinda forced. Seems like Branch was on musicial hiatius for the time being and didn't want to go back into the studio to work on new material, but the record company strongarmed her into working with Satana
