Sleep feist - rock band

Hmm, let me start with the most important point, which would be the music.

Somehow, when I hear your song "Waves", it reminds me of a mixture of trance, shoegazing, and emo.
The song has a hypnotic feel to it. Melody-wise, everything from the vocals to the drums feel very hollow. In this sense, its not necessary a bad thing. Its just that it sounds quite blur as well. In some parts, this is okay, but in others, the blurred effect actually doesn't match. It is quite sleep-inducing, reminding me of a lullaby.

Doesn't help that your band name is called "Sleep-Feist"

I was quite tempted to write the band off at first but after listening to the song once, I feel that it has potential. Perhaps, a little bit of re-recording and tightening up of the song would do it good. It has the potential, especially if you want to continue with this "lullaby-rock" genre. However, you would need to make sure that while people are reminded of lullabies, you wouldn't want them to literally fall asleep halfway.

Out of 10 stars, I give this band a 6 star rating. Potential is there, just needs a bit of improvement and tightening up.

Cheers!

P.S:
Your myspace page is... qutie... informative. Do put a little more information about yourselves :D

I don't really agree with you particularly regarding the musical aspect, but everybody has their preferences, so thanks for your time and your opinion.

Recording quality wise, myspace rips a pretty big chunk of quality out of it(makes it very muddy), and also I'm not a very good mixer.

Also, we don't plan on playing a very specific genre of music, our other songs are different.

thanks again!

LOL, okay. Your mypsace didn't reveal very much, so I was left guessing at straws about a few things.

Hopefully you guys can put some more good stuff up

Cheers!

I like it, the shalalalala part feels retro to me, almost nostalgic. I guess it's your intention to make the mix sound "hollow" to bring out the intimate feel to the song which reminds me of Slowdive, so it's supposed to sound like a lullaby. I think you guys have great potential. We need more tracks on your myspace.

imho, for the style of the music, its actually pretty decent. Heh, i can only say, more reverb and harsher guitar noise/feedback/oscillation etc! Especially the build up part till the end. Bring the listener up high and just end it to let them drop back down

Hmmm, interesting comparison, humpback oak?

ah thanks for all the feedback guys I really appreciate it, glad you enjoy it.
there should be another song up soon, but it's going to be really rough and demoish, though you could call waves a demo too heh.

anyone else? dont be afraid to call us shit!

Sounds very Sigur Ros-ish to me.....

Overall, not bad.

Quite a few people have said that, funny thing is that none of us really listen to them. I still don't think it sounds like them actually, from the few songs I've heard anyway.
thanks for your feedback

hehe, i think its the whole dreamy ambience thing you have going on and the vocal stylings. Maybe it's purely coincidental but the way the vocals are used in your track - more as a complement to the tune like an instrument rather than stand out in the mix like what typical vocals would do was what gave me that Sigur Ros vibe :D

anyways, have fun making music man.

Ahh yea. Well that's because of two things.
1. I'm not a great mixer so when I put the vocals further up I find that it sounds terrible and very karaoke.
2. I got that not from Sigur ros but more from the way my bloody valentine mixed their stuff.

you too :)
