SL Sale 310508: Bass talk

greetings friends- it wouldn't be quite right if we don't talk gear prior to the SALE day; it's not done for enticement exclusively, but as a form of assistance to those who are have headaches pertaining to selections. please note that this thread is strictly temporary & would be closed on the sale day. some ground rules:

*there should be no list price query to be done here. this discussion is not a price directory & it should not be turned into one. the onus is on you to check out the list price. however, we should be quoting price range to help members maximize their budget.

*do not ask if Bass A is better than Bass B, ask if it meets your needs more than anything else.

*we definitely do not know if there are gonna be a specific model on the sale day by the time you make your entrance into the venue or what's in store on the sale day. i always advise buyers to do some shopping a few days prior to the sale event & have Plan B, C & D handy if your Plan A fails you...

worthy basses to grab:

Ibanez: Iceman bass (ICB 300)

Squier: Vintage Mod P-bass (if there are any left)

Cort: CBP-PJ bass pack- if you have to get a starter bass pack, the Cort is recommended. the amp is of a make-do quality but the bass itself is worthy for starters/ back up services

lol the above are just recommendations from subversion, nothing more.

slap-worthy? i'm assuming generic Jazz basses. last i recall there's a Squier Affinity 4-string Jazz. that was about 2 or 3 weeks ago.

Sls !

Dun forget about the Ibanez Atk series !!! they sound sweet for their price, plus it can give you the classic Large mid-scoop slap tone. Check out the sound samples on their website and you tube.
Damn i sound like i just came off the Ibanez marketing train.

oh, but i think the cort bass is nt bad lah, HAHA
maybe cos i'm a cort fan, LOL

ibanez is way over my budget( if i can make it for this sales lah)
but yeah it's good =]

woah, the bass seems limited in range,

that's right, these are just recommendations, surely, swee lee doesn't just sell 3 basses?

this bass is very affordable after disct + very slap-friendly:

OMG, i thought the Rd was discountined? couldn't find them on the ibanez webby

the tone is awesome, too bad i won't be around to buy it =[ ( nt to mention no money to buy, HAHA)

discontinue production doesn't mean Swee Lee won't have ma :D there's even an ancient Aria Pro II bass stuck somewhere in the warehouse, lol.

websites will only show what's in production. what's in STOCK at a store.. you have to see for yourself ;)

the reason i didn't mention this bass was because i only saw the 5-string version... would confirm if there's the 4-string soon...

atk

Oh ! sucks i was looking forward to maybe grabbing one 4 stringer. hmm any idea of the Low B definition on it ?, there are great raves about it on talkbass. but i have not personally tried it, unfortunately. There are the worrisome QC issues mentioned on talkbass( Eg retarded or broken truss rods) which is quite scary. Any idea of the make of the atk's that swee lee sells ?, i know i can call them up or check it out for myself but currently i am pretty pressed for time. plus any personal experiences will be helpful. thanks !

i've played both the 4/5- string versions of the ATK. on the face of it, they are fine in terms of QC. we wouldn't know of the broken truss rod until we tweak them personally which isn't going to happen during a try-out. i'd say the ATKs are great value for money, definitely.

hmm any idea whether there's Ibanez SR series 5 string basses available? the SL website seems very uninformative haha.

if you aren't too particular about the brand but know a good bass when you hande one, consider this:

Cort GB series
GOODS1_1115270842

managed to try them (the rest of the GB series are higher end models) yesterday- CORT makes good stuff, very overlooked but it's one to get if you are on a budget + you need something that won't let you down.
