Calling out to all ska-fanatic!!

i'm currently looking at the possibility of organizing a outdoor event somewhere in the mid/end june '09 period, just checking in to see the response of the local bands and supporters of 'ska music' :mrgreen:

if you are interested/looking-forward/waiting/wanna play for a festival/event or have played for a band and looking to showcase your talent as a band?

please do drop a reply here or pm me with your band name and details and i'll keep you guys in the loop for it.

but any slots for a punk rock band?
 
What's wrong with having the same amount of punk and ska music?

We'll all like it if we appreciate to enjoy all types of music.

Just my 2 cents.
 
The name of the gig might be ska fest but we must not narrow down the genre down to only ska music seriously...think of the crowd too. And I love ska music alot but I think it'll be better with punk and Oi music and other genres too.

It's called Ska fest for a reason. If it has an equal share of ska bands and punk bands. It would be called ska+punk fest.

For example: I like metal music. I go for an Iron Maiden show. But, some post hardcore band comes up to play. Hmm... They are good, but that's not what I paid for.

I understand there has always been the tradition of punk bands playing at ska shows, especially since the third wave of ska was so closely knit with punk rock. But asking for an equal amount of ska and punk is just... *sigh*

That's actually a good idea. A Ska+Punk Fest. Unless the organizers are Ska "purists" then maybe I'll get off your lawn.

And I too think that it's ridiculous to have a hardcore/post-hardcore band in an Iron Maiden show. I have to agree with you on that.

And I think this is going nowhere. Just want to voice out my opinion. I really think Ska music is associated closely with Oi! and punk music that's all. These are the only genres I want to zoom in into.

True, but ska consists of more than one wave. While two tone and third wave ska is close to Oi! and punk music, the sound of two tone and the first generation of ska aren't even close to Oi! and punk. Really, equality would not be fair. Fairness would mean having to invite bands play rocksteady, dub and reggae just to name a few. After all, they are closer to ska than any other "genre". Or have we blurred the lines already?

While a few bands from the "related" genres will provide diversity and a larger crowd. I feel that a healthy split could result in a half-a**ed gig that's neither ska nor punk. While they are related, they are very different.

Then again, neither of us are in the organizing comm, we're just wasting bandwidth. HA!

seriously, just stick to ska.
lots more of peeps will enjoy them over the fast pace punks or oi music.
and futhermore, whens the last we have a ska gig on its own.
its been years, guess its time to live up like those days.

then we can bring in Oi! and hardcore along!.. Awesome!!
