single coils in humbucker space

i know this is wierd but it's quite difficult to find what i want in the alr available market in spore. so i've decided to see if there are some tweaking i can do to those that are similar. is it possible to get a hsh super strat and change the neck pickup to a single coil? i think i've seen it done somewhere before but i'm not sure if my memory is correct lol :???:

i'm guessing, not too sure, but you'd have to have a pickguard there to make sure the pickup doesn't drop out of the body cavity or atleast something to hold it there

It doesn't matter what routing is done for the strat, it's the pickguard that determines the config of the pickups.

Yeah, I meant HB sized single coil. Yes there are those available on the market.
The conversion plate works as well.

Why not just add a coil split to the neck humbucker? Problem solved + u still have a humbucker sound whenever u need it, and no destructive routing required.

u know coil tapping and coil splitting are 2 different things right? there are certain humbucking pickups on the market that are supposedly designed to sound good when split too.

Just body mount the single coil, if prettiness is required, then get a HB spaced single coil.

what do u mean by body mount the single coil?? oh and i dun coil tap. i use my neck stacked single coil on my current guitar for almost everything from metal to jazz. if i coil tap, its gonna hum me insane!!

Alternatively u can try wiring ur current humbucker in parallel and see if you like the tone. No cost to that. Hum free yet closer to a single coil tone. If you like it, you can always add a series/parallel switch too.

Btw just a correction for you. Coil splitting is shorting one coil of a humbucker to make it a true single coil. Coil tapping is different, its something usually done to single coils. Whereby there is a wire that is tapped out to let u run the pickup with less winding.

hmmm i dont have a humbucker-equipped guitar lying ard in my room, but a humbucker in series would sound similar to 2 single coils in a std strat no 2/4 position right??

No, a humbucker in series sounds like a humbucker.

Your tonal difference between humbuckers and singles come from a couple of factors. One of the main factors is string sensing aperture. On singles the area that is sensed is narrower, hence u get a clearer (brighter) sound. On humbuckers, the aperture is wider (cos it spans over 2 coils) and u get some harmonics canceled out, giving u a darker sound.

Compared to ur positions 2 and 4, a parallel wired humbucker is different as the 2 coils that are active are closer together. Sounds closer to that of one singlecoil pickup rather than ur positions 2 and 4.

Anyway, no humbuckers are going to sound like a true singlecoil, due to the wide aperture. Even your stacked singles still sound different. I almost never run the stacked neck single on my anderson in stacked mode, always in true single mode. Its a compromise, hum vs tone. It's always ez to turn down the volume control when not playing. If you're getting excessive hum, chances are u have a shielding/grounding problem somewhere.
