hi if u want to hear ur own voice without recording, do u need any special equipment? like any mike and stuff? and sometimes recording compromises the quality even though it's cheaper

haha ok...

like instead of using a cheap mike, i want to hear..ok wait...rephrase again

ok, for example, i want to hear my singing like how's it's done with a karaoke machine, just that is there any amplifier or stuff for a mike?

ok like how a guitar is plugged into an amp, where is a mic plugged into? for home use...

mixer, well, dont think i'm referring to a mixer

For studio or PA applications, mics or guitars are usually plugged into the mixer then amplified thru speakers.

As for home, mics are usually plugged into ur karaoke mixer or VCD/ DVD player.

Hope diz helps.. :D

ah ok i get it. but only can go through dvd and karaoke for home use? how about say jamming at home with drums, amps, and singing? that will require a PA?

Do you really want to jam (as in jam like in a jamming studio) at home?? Have you considered if you will be a nusiance to your neighbors??

Like we say, there is a time and place for everything. If you don't want problems, have the right time and the right place. Do your practise at home, but do your rehersal at a jamming studio. Make more sense.

lol ok...but is it as noisy to stand in a semi-d? have not really considered that sorry...

but for vocal practise, just a karaoke/dvd thing will work?

Have you heard of the Everitt Rd neighbor spat??

Unless you have catered a special sound proof room(cost between $20-40K to make). Or an underground (real underground) basement which is isolated from the upper level.

I bet a large percent of people who tried to make a jamming place at home, end up not being able to use it after a few time, police come knocking. Imagine the money you already spent to buy the equipment.

hi Tany,

Actually im currently in the process of setting up a room for some "light" practise session which includes singing and some simple instruments like guitar and keyboard..

Personally, i don't tink it will affect my neighbours if u r playing at normal listening levels (lower that 75dB).. Im currently residing in a normal HDB flat. So far have been "jamming" using my BMB speakers wif no complains... Think some ppl blast their karaoke sets louder than i do..

For my case, im using a P.A mixer and a reverb unit for my vocal. As i often invite my friends over to sing, i find the mixer pretty useful for big gatherings.. Of course i will link my dvd/ vcd player to my mixer for music playback of my karaoke disc lah.. :D

Probably u can consider..

There are a lot of solutions to solve your problems. :) Mark is right. Just a simple p.a system will solve your prob. But for your 1st question u r asking more abt vocal if i am not wrong. U want to know how to hear your own voice with a good quality sound without the use of recording purposes if i undertsand your question. If that the case u can use the simplest method which is get a vocal mic and a instrument amp(freq response must be able to handle*). *30Hz to 18kHz best! Do u have any budget?

oh but will a dvd player w/o a TV work? like maybe plugged to comp speakers or smth...

and for recording vocals, a mixer is a must?

and i saw this portable PA yamaha one, was going for US$99 wonder if they have it here?

Tany, few questions for ya..

1) Can u sing w/o looking at the lyrics? If yes, u can connect w/o TV. However, i doubt normal comp spkr will sound good for singing..Dats my 2 cents..

2) Wat r u using to record? Cassette recorder, md, cd recorder????

3) Imo, mixer is essential in recording as it;
- provide a platform where multiple inputs can be connected
- balance the volume of ur music, vocal or any other instruments so that no one is louder than the other..
- can do some basic eq to the sound to ur liking(example, if u have a thin voice, u can boost the "lo" and probably some "mid" to make your voice sound more "thick")

4) Can provide the model no of that US$99 Yammy portable PA?

Cheers

hey yup comp speakers may not be the best!

but with a mixer, u plug in a condenser mic, and u get good recording quality?

damn cant find that page now! sorry i lost info about that yamaha portable PA, maybe down here someone noes?

"but with a mixer, u plug in a condenser mic, and u get good recording quality?"

I wont say guarantee to get good recording, but decent recording.. Coz a good recording constitute of many factors.. E.g, recording enviroment, mic use, cable use, etc...

Note that if u wana use condenser mic, ur mixer muz have phamton power.

Hi Tany

Maybe u can let us know what is your budget? We can come out with some suggestions what u need for your requirement. :)

tany, i think it is best to record your voice and playback to hear who it sounds. cause it is kinda difficult to hear yourself while you are singing.
