Singing Backup

HARMONY, A GOOD EAR AND HAVINGTHE SENSE NOT TOO OVERPOWER THE LEAD SINGER (or risk kena having mic thrown at you by him/her  )

exactly what fgl said + ability to blend

the ability to blend is not about the precision of the pitch, but of tone.

you can sing perfectly on the harmony pitch without overpowering the singer yet stick out like a sore thumb. thats when knowing how to change your tone of your voice to blend comes in.

the only way to achieve this tone blending is to practice alot together and get used to each other.

ahh...i see...hmm...well...in pop songs...its kinda hard to sift out the background vocals eh...using the audio effects software to do the minus one just removes almost all vocals totally or blurs the backup altogether...any tips on that then?...

blending in with the main vocalist, and not over powering the vocalist, they are to help the vocalist, they can try to sing the higher part/lower part where the main vocalist cannot reach. just my opinion. dun throw mic at me..lol.
recently started experimenting with other band members as back up vocals. sounds better.

Try listening to dixie chicks. Genre may not be suitable to you but the harmonizing portion should be quite obvious
