Singapore music scene!

Your post is er..
anyway. You answered your own question. It's a hardcore gig. Why is the a pop/rock band performing and you can't blame the audience for not staying on.
For why should they even? They came to watch Hardcore and that's that. What's the purpose of staying on and watching the other bands with no interest?
There ARE people who 'supports' the pop/rock scene or whichever genre you feel is lacking of 'support'.

I truly understand your point of view but you gotta rephrase your question again?

pop is called pop for a reason.

probably these platforms arent popular enough for pop dwellers, its more of a showcase for underground music, so naturally what you said ensues.

And also..the MEDIA (as you distastefully name it) doesn't 'support' Electrico or Plainsunset because they are popular.
THEY are popular because the members made a huge effort and i do mean, HUGE, to market themselves to the public.
Do find out more about their history before you try (word here is try) to accuse of the 'MEDIA' being biased.

dude

okay dude,so tell me.why does hardcore/metal bands never rise in singapore?
these bands do put in alot effort too. a band such as Wormrot.
They are not published by the media but they will be tour-ing to malaysia.

ANYWAYS. gigs nowdays have bands of diff genre's in it. and most people going to the gigs are hardcore fans. And most of the teenage bands in singapore are playing hardcore.MOST.
so my qn to you is, 'Is the pop/rock scene dying in Singapore?' and why are most gig organizers, organizing gigs for hardcore bands and not poprock bands nowadays?

anyways, you should start looking deeper into the points you've put across.

your POV is extremely shallow, and i am sure you'd do better thinking awhile longer why your so called pop scene is dying in singapore.

Pop is short for Popular.

Before Wormrot, Impiety was one of a number of local bands who have established themselves, in one way or another, abroad.

It takes a mixture of talent& luck to be 'popular'. The reason you read a lot about Electrico for example is because their music is more widely (aurally ) accepted. You should read up on back issues of Terrorizer for example, you will find local bands featured, like Ossuary.

I think it doesn't matter if these so called metal/hardcore/etc bands ain't 'big' in Singapore because chances are they're pretty huge overseas. Economically, I rather have more than just 4million people buying my records.

i guess it takes more of luck. If you know people who can produce, distribute and support ure music.you'll get big.

Everything in life is luck. The girlfriend you get,the toto number you buy. But what really matters is how much you effort you put in for that luck. The more I buy a number or the more i ask a girl out the better my luck of sucess.

So even in the music scene it depends on how mush effort you put into something to maximize your luck.I'm sure bands like electrico put in alot of effort before they become well known

This is just my opinion I'm very sorry if I offend you or you dont agree. No harm/bad intentions intended;)

Before I say what I have to say about metal, I'll say that this is entirely my biased opinion, I do not speak for anybody but myself, that I am but a small drop in the ocean that makes up the Singapore listening audience.

I hate metal. I don't know why, I've given it a chance. I try to be open minded, I listen to classical, jazz, pop, blues, reggae, indie, avant garde, whatever you name it etc etc. Most of this is OK. I can't stand metal. You can work your ass off and practice for 12 hours a day, but you will not make me like metal. (there is only one exception, and that was Anthrax duetting with Public Enemy.)

Sometimes you will know that if you want to follow your passion, just go ahead and do it, no need to seek the approval of a wider audience to validate yourself. Believe in yourself. Like I know that if I were given the chance to make my own music, some of it will never find a wider audience. People do not understand Captain Beefheart, Thelonious Monk, electric Miles Davis. People generally do not like drum + bass. You just have to accept it.

Or else, if you want to be popular, do what it takes to be popular, and don't complain that you're selling your ass because that's what you're doing. And don't complain that you're not doing the kind of music that you like.

But make your choice because you can never have your cake and eat it too. And while you're at it, keep your metal away from me.

Dear TS,
first of all. No need for a sexist remark. Even though im a girl, what makes you think I wouldn't know anything at all about the 'Local Scene'. You are implying that only boys (pffft...) KNOW their stuff but you have proved to all of us that, no they don't.

Your weak attempt of this 'sure-to-fail' argument is pointless. I hope you're not embasking yourself or your band in some sort of self-pity. You're trying to paint a rainbow with only one color on your pallette. So stop.

Hardcore and Metal has been getting the raves from our neighbouring residents from ages back.(And) Isn't them(the hardworking and talented and passionate individual/bands) representing Singapore still a kind of 'local sucess'???
