Simplifying a Floyd Rose style tremolo

I'm currently interested in some of Ibanez's S and RG series and many feature a heavy double-locking tremolo. I'm wondering if it is advisable, in an attempt to make them simpler to re-string and tune, to remove the locking nut and the fine tuners at the bridge, such that it behaves like an over-sized synchronized tremolo?

Thanks in advance!

wait for the new sv prestige being release next year by ibanez at naam perhaps? sounds like the guitar u want. you can check them out at the japan ibanez webby.

Heard they will go out of tune all the time without the locking nut and fine tuners?

But actually I don't like the prestige models. I prefer standard series...

Go out of tune all the time?!?

You do that to your floyd, you get a bridge akin to standard trem... do they go out of tune all the time?

Where did you hear that from?

well i guess the other alternative would be too get an sa series. change the machine heads to locking ones and change the nut to a graptech trem nut. that would be a cheaper alternative but you wont get as much pull up range as an s,rg or an sv.

i own a s470 for 1 yr already, and i dont have any problems in the strings getting out of tune. I use the whammy frequently (i tried the herman li stunt where he pulls the guitar just by the whammy bar, i think vai did that too), still stays in tune.

Actually my current favourite is the SA series but since I don't whammy at all, I think its better I steer clear of Floyd Rose style tremolos and go for what is simple.

If you don't whammy at all.. then... why are you looking at whammy-able guitars?

Pick a fixed bridge... I'm sure there are other guitars, other non-ibanez ones, that would satisfy your requirements.

Actually I do whammy once in a while, which is why I'd need a tremolo. But I dislike the troublesome double locking tremolos. So now its actually more of a synchronized tremolo I'm after.

Well, finally decided that I would only be happy with a fixed-bridge or a light tremolo. This is because I only whammy once in a while, and I like to explore alternative tunings. Fixed bridges and light tremolos allow me to detune without requiring a set-up. They are also much simpler to use.

So yeah case closed! Thanks everyone for your help!
