Signal to Noise Ratio

Is it a good thing to have SNR in your mp3 player?
and what exactly does it mean?

pardon the noob here.

ok, but the specs for some mp3 players list the SNR as 'NA'.
and some have SNR as 90dB.

so i presume the higher the SNR, the cleaner it is, and hence better?

for audiophiles, basically the higher the number, the less distortion, and therefore the better player in terms of clarity and fidelity, all else equals.
