short scale narrow and slim neck electric guitar

Hey

I'm searching around for an electric guitar with a short scale narrow and slim neck to fit my small hands. I play both rhythm and lead guitar in church, though more often rhythm, and i gotta do alot of barre chords sometimes, and the chunky neck on my epiphone les paul makes it a pain to barre and i'm getting a wrist injury from it which is preventing me from playing.
I gotta admit, it's partly due to some bad playing habits which i've been trying to improve, but i figured that a better shaped neck might help too. I'm ok with the 24.75 inch scale on the les paul, but the 1.68inch/42.7mm nut width is too wide for my hands, and the neck is definitely too thick. Might a lower fretboard radius help as well?

So do any of you know of any guitars that fit the above description? My budget is about less than $1000, but if you've got something above $1000 that fits the description, please let me know too. Best if it has the thick beefy les paul tone too, but for now, tone's not a priority. Saving my wrist is more important.

thanks :)

thanks for all the suggestions man.
i've never tried a PRS SE before, though i thought PRS normally have wide necks? maybe that's just the non-SE line?
I've tried an ibanez before and yeah the neck is slim enough for me and felt way better than my les paul, but still, they're kinda wide too, it says 43mm at the nut on their website, which isn't any narrower than a les paul. i might go try one out again.

i forgot to mention, i would like a normal sized body and not a mini one. heh i can't imagine carrying a mini guitar, i'll feel and look like i'm playing a toy. haha thanks for that cool suggestion though, i didn't think of that.

yes i did take a look at daisy rock guitars, but heh like asdf said, it might hurt my pride, though still worth a try :). afterall, it's in your playing and your sound, not the looks right?

oh yes fender mustang, i didn't think of that. thanks!

i did read up on the music man axis and reflex, which have like 41mm nut width. By specs and description alone, the reflex seems nice, but i guess the price is way high right? anyone knows how much one goes for?

or any other suggestions?

just a suggestion. yes a suggestion... ibanez andy timmons model has 40.5mm nut width. but it has a normal 25.5 scale. very expensive.

wow 40.5mm sounds real good. but the price... yeah. or could i get a cheaper guitar and order a custom neck and fit it on or something? anyone knows if that's a good idea, price and practicaity wise?

Actually just getting a thinner neck like the Ibanez Wizard II should more or less eliminate the problem, as the lack of chunk will free up more finger length for fretting.

but wont the larger fretboard radius make barre chords more tedious?? since TS is playing both rhythm and lead, i suggest something with compound radius, like the jacksons

not really. as the wizard 2 neck is both thin [not as extreme as the wizard 1 of course] and flat and wide [43mm nut width], the ratio of these aspects makes the neck feels kinda big imo. i've played esp before and the neck actually felt smaller than the wizard neck. guess it's really a preference thing. well, just imho. oh and the wizard 2 has 25.5 scale length as opposed to ts' favored 24.75.

yeah i kinda agree the wide and flat wizard 2 neck isn't ideal for barre chords.
oh yeahh esp guitars. i forgot about them. the eclipse 2 with SD pickups looks like it might suit me. nut width is 42mm, just a slight bit smaller than the les paul, and 24.75 scale length too. but the website says they have a "thin U neck". thin sounds good, but not so much the "U". i should go try one out.

i also have the same problem as you, my palms are big, but my fingers are so short, i cannot even explain. i would love to try fender necks. Their v-necks are my next option to try. but i'm worried about their scale length, maybe even 0.25inches is too much of a difference, considering my hand-size. or maybe gibson's 60's slim neck would help us. my 2cents.

Oh alright my mistake sorry. I have very big hands so i don't find much problem fretting or barring, that's why. But i do have friends with very small hands who love the Wizard II on my Ibanez, that's why i mentioned it.

exopolitics: haha yeahhh short fingers are my problem too. i've tried my friend's fender, slim yes, but just didn't feel right in my hands. i'm not sure what neck shape his is though, i only held it for a minute. i'm starting to realise i may need a narrow neck more than a slim neck. a not so slim neck may still fit my palm, but my fingers can't reach a wide neck.

loldude333: hey sure, no prob. thanks for the suggestion too. i've tried wizard necks and they felt awesome for soloing and bending, just couldn't chord as well on it, which is my main gripe for now.

ratboy: hmmm i did check out warmoth and played around with their custom neck thingy. though after i looked at the price, it wasn't that cheap, considering i have to go get a guitar that i can bolt the neck on. Or am i wrong? can someone enlighten me on this? not very sure about these custom built guitar things. Though if a custom neck is the best solution, i might go try it out.

not all of them are for bolt on guitars, the fender type necks go w/o a doubt but those gibson style necks can go with the lespauls also. u just gotta undo the glue on ur lp, put the new neck on it and glue it back...alot of work though this one.

as for esp thin u neck contour, i've owned one b4 and its slim alright. dun worry about the u thingy, its just a u bcos its a full semi circle, no flat parts...
