Hi,

I wasn´t sure it anyone had tis problem... short finger mean there is a disadvantage playing solo?? END OF THE WORLD??

CHeersss :?

come on man!!! don´t bealive all that crap. all it takes is a little bit of practice... anything is playable. don´t think you can, know you can.

keep at it and it will all fit in time.

don´t be discouraged
short fingers shouldn´t be a problem i think... it might hinder in some techniques (like stretch) but it could help too... perhaps like in those really tight chord fingerings which long fingers can´t fit into easily on the upper frets?

and short seems to = fast & agile in the sports world... don´t know if it applies to guitar playing... (table tennis, sprinting vs basketball, long-distance running, and remember in the world cup how the tiny koreans turned on the ball... ang mor can´t turn so fast their centre of gravity too high)

ultimately technique more important than finger length... so +U +U

angus young rocks

Angus Young rocks!!

Well...I'm not very sure....but Yngwie Malmsteen doesn't strike me as a person with lanky fingers too....in fact his looks quite stubby as well.... like the Symphony X guitarist too....

I guess this also address some concerns over stubby fingers..lol

my wife hv short and weak finger, but with some persistant practice she still managed to stretch and play some classical and strum guitar.

Short finger is definitely not the end of the world (but short p....k is  )

I once saw a short guy...last year..in hard rock cafe...
They have the promotion of METALICA NEW album..st anger...
Many bands came to play tribute to metallica and all play metalica song.
Then during the last gig...To my horror..I saw the shortest BASS player of my life...Probably...just 5 feet...
Ypu know what..He play a 6 string FAT BASS guitar...
Now....looking at his height ..his fingers can not be that long..and bass guitar need ling finger for streching...But the hell..he play so fast and powerful....songs like KILL EM ALL....
So short finger is no excuse...but of course they are limitaion...
Is how you position your hand on the net....
Every breathe you take is one song that is very difficult to play if you have short finger..almost impossible...
You need palm muting...from 1st at position 5(6 string)to liitle finger at pos 9(4 string) continous until song end.
That is very good tranning for those who have long fingers and will greatly improved you scales along the way.
I can't sustain even for 1 minute....Still learning after all this years.

i got 2 words for you dude...

DJANGO REINHARDT

that dude has what 2? 3 fretting fingers?... and he plays like a GOD... seriously hard to play his stuff even with 10 fingers... morale of the story is. if the desire to play is strong enough... stumbling blocks become Stepping stones..

keep playing dude,

well my fingers i think not long or short la.. but i played wizard 2 necks...and i think its damn tiring to play man... i prefer the one on my rg580 .. its more wizard 1 , and more chunky . still slim and fast but not ridiculously thin like wiz 2.

Advice if you think u got short fingers.

Change the posture that you play. Unless you got really really incredibly small hands, eg. a baby's hands, you should have no problem. The only question is practice.

You should, strap you guitar real high. Try not to do the "slash" thing or those "grunge" hip level guitar thing...

Position your thumb lower on the back of the neck, so that you hand is positioned above the fret board. The idea is that you can play your guitar without your fret-hand thumb touching the neck.

Remeber, your thumb is only a support, so try not to hook your thumb on the top of the neck when playing.

This will allow your fret hand to be above the fretboard like a pianist would his fingers on the keyboard. This is enable you to reach all the frets possible.

It'll take some getting used to and practice.

This method is used by classical guitar players and also by John Petrucci of Dream Theater, so straps his guitar very high for obvious reasons.

well i think for the piano, if you have short fingers it is a disadvantage when you have to play in octaves or further at a certain speed cos u'll tend to hit other keys whereas people with long fingers can play more accurately. and...all the prodigious piano players in the world seem to have long fingers, Li Yundi (one octave and two white keys without any problem), Maksim (one octave and 4 white keys)...

Its all about adapting with ur own natural constraints. There are a very limited few piano virtuosos with only 1 hand, and yet they can play beautiful piano.

Mother nature has given us one very powerful tool...which is adaptability. Short fingers juz means more practice and discovering new techniques...

After reading that about adaptibility, I can't help but imagine what'll happen to me, in the event i lose the use of my hands..

i dun have short fingers but i do have frds who does....
they are like much faster n possess more weird techniques which i take time to catch up.... it is up to u to practice hard n make urself feel comfortable with ur guitar. dun give up man!!!!!!!
