Seymour Duncan Pickups

Hi all, can anyone recommend a good SD bridge pickup to pair with a p-90 in the neck?

Or recommend SD neck + bridge pickup combo?

I play lots of classic/hard rock gnr, zeppelin, ac/dc, foo fighters and maybe some punk

Thanks all!

Not sure if it works well with a P-90, but I find the Seymour Duncan JB to be a really versatile pickup. Never tried other Seymour Duncans before though.

Eh sorry for the ignorant question but, p90s are smaller than humbuckers right?
Should i route out space to fit in another SD neck pickup to match with the JB?

Actually, a P-90 is smaller than a humbucker, but depending on what guitar you're using, you might not need re-routing because the cavity might be big enough for a standard humbucker on some guitars.

If you want a P90 sounding neck pickup, but only can use humbuckers, one option is to use humbucker-sized P90s, like the Duncan Phat Cat or other more "boutique" brands out there like harmonic design. Maybe even the gibson one but that's expensive as hell.

Thanks for all the useful info guys :). I have a p90 in the neck now, but will prob swap it out for a humbucker. Is it possible to check if the cavity is wide enough to fit a humbucker?

To keep discussions clear.

1. What guitar are you using?
2. What pickups are in there right now?
3. NPNT(no picture no talk) now show us some gear porn!

I think you need to establish what you want?

P90s and Humbuckers don't retrofit. Their sizes are too different. The P90 is thinner bridge to nut but wider side to side.

Do you want a more humbucker sounding neck? or a more p90 sounding bridge?

As far as I know, Dimarzio are the only ones who have pickups in a P90 size that have more humbucker sounding characteristics, and many companies have humbucker sized P90 pickups.

Harmonic Design being the one that gets the best reviews. There is a month long wait time on those though.

Hope that helps abit. =)

yup, if you want HUMBUCKER sounding pickups in a P90 slot you can use

1. DiMarzio DLX or DLX plus.
2. EMG something something wotever... there's google and there's emg website
3. Bill Lawrence L500. Yes its a humbucker but its smaller than a humbucker and with a pickup ring, you can actually fit that in.
4. Gibson Firebird kind of humbuckers with the pickup ring, "may" be able to fit that in.

Other that sizing and fit, I can't help you much on how the tone with match up with the other. If anyone else who can answer you without prior experience with the pickups they recommend... you know they're lying. ;)

Well i kinda want a more humbucker sound in the neck. So i'd have to route out the cavity with the p90 to fit?
Thanks for the help btw :)

I supported that desicion, JB one of the best Duncan pickup. The Harmonics will jump out easily, pair it with a good Tube Amp and you will Rock Your World.

the list of pickups that I've posted can be installed without any modifications or some very slight ones.

Thanks for the info edder =D. But i scared later pair different brand/type pickups
sound will be affected =x.

I reccomend dropping by a pickup forum like the seymour duncan one. They will be able to give you good advice relating to mixing different types of pickups and such.
