hi all ;)

i got an acoustic several months ago and it sounds fab

the action however is way too high

i was wondering if anyone knows of a good person to set up an acoustic guitar

i heard that they have to SAW/FILE something down to get the action lower? are these people pulling my leg or what?

any advice about the care and maintenance of an acoustic guitar is also greatly appreciated

From personal experience, these people do excellent work with regards to acoustics.

Not much sawing involved. More filing than anything. If you saddle has shims underneath, you can attempt to remove them first and see if it helps.

I highly recommend you seek professional help, unless you know what you're doing. Because the margin for error is small, and there are many things that can go wrong. Furthermore, when you file the saddle/nut, you'd need to do some work on the intonation and so on too.

+1 to Mike @ Standard Value. Great service and quality work. He's my go-to guy for anything professional.

I don't think you should do it yourself yet. Get a qualified professional to do it, watch the process, and maybe buy a cheap guitar to try it out. But don't DIY it on your main guitar just yet. My $0.02.
