Setting up a mini home studio

Regarding on the sound eq, is it advisable to use karaoke speaker or DJ speaker for vocal?
Which brand is preferred? EV/ JBL/ BMB...

I am getting SM58 as the mic.

Hi Henry

What do you want to use the home studio for? Is it like a rehearsal room for your band?

Depends on your needs.for just recording playback can try the Kurzweil KS40 or KRK Rokit. For more advance mixing and monitoring, higher quality ones will suit the need.check out some in Luther Music or City Music. :)

You can get a bigger studio monitor to do jamming/recording/mix. A studio monitor with at least 5" woofer can really fill a small HDB bedroom. If you have much bigger space, you may have to setup two system. One for jamming using stage monitor, other for studio monitor for production stuff.

actually, like James said, we need to know if you intend to build a "home studio" for home recording,

or a "home studio" for jamming?

For vocal recording, you will need a headphone. If you use a speaker, the sound from the speaker will spill into the microphone when you record. This is bad.

Please list out all equipment that you currently own. This way, we can help you better.

and what is the main diff btw passive and actice speakers? I read up, but still unsure of it. Which type of speakers that is used in major concerts worldwide?
