Self-taught drummers

My Opinion is otherwise different:-

I think Beginner-Drummer that just get started out is better to have some basic drumming lessons from a Drumming Instructor. This makes Drumming more interesting & inspiring as Instructor will guide beginner drummers with the correct Basic Techniques and other Basics deem to be important to all beginners. This could take years (so it depends on the potential of each students) like me I'm slow.

AFter this beginning stage and moving to Intermediate Drumming - it is here that creativeness comes in with one own style - but if a beginner start off without a teacher and somewhat develop some bad habits - not only is it difficult to unlearn at a later stage, it can be so very demoralising to a beginner drummer when he or she finds that at a certain stage, they gets stagnanated in drumming going nowhere, after a while .. then he gives up halfway (thinking that he himself is not cut for drumming maybe - which is not at all true) - what a waste .... The Beginning Stage looks easy but it's actually not - - How ell one play later will largely depends on how good we master or develop our basics.

Soft's Drum Xchange Singapore realise this too (it happen to many new drummers) - so the committee & it's members try their best to help keep the drumming passion going (this include we ourself) so we share and help support each other on this area through the Forum, our monthly meetup, building closer ties among drummers so that we can all enjoy the hobby in a more meaningful and fruitful way through sharing of thoughts, ideas, skills etc etc.

Drummers Are Not Born - They Are Made - In General !...... that's why we have to put in the effort to practice and practice hard if we wanna be good..........and Self-Disclipine & Stamina comes mainly from - - - "How Great Is That Passion In Us Really Towards Drumming ?"

But we also realise - Passion can die-off - unless we can all support each other to upkeep it.....and all the above comes into play.......It's so boring to play drums, without drumming bros and sis around to share the joy of it.

TAKE LESSONS ! - It's good & enjoyable !

PS: - Check with my Drumming Instructor - I'm still having that Stupid Bad Habit Of Mine (Left-Hand) till now - and I have to be constantly reminded - cause it becomes a natural bad habit - and I'm really trying so hard to unlearn......Get it right from the start .... See how I suffer now?

jeno...
care to elaborate??

i dont get your idea, but i myte wanna try

oh oh!! okie okie!!

here goes......

normal beat: (assume beat = 120)

1....2....3....4....1....2....3....4....
------------------------------->
time

deviate: (assume beat = 120)

1...D-e-v-i-a-t-e...4
------------------->
time

see, when the deviate comes, it can be like uhm..... squeezing three beats (shiiiiii........ i prefer to explain this in R/L), or squeezing odd number beats within the ...2...3... period, before coming to a stop at the "4", which marks the end of a bar. then proceed to the next bar, and repeat the cycle. there are many variations, but i am still experimenting.

Hmmm jenocide, you mean crossing over time? I reckon it's similar to doing 6 and 7 stroke rolls. I may be wrong though. I still can't get the counting part for that right lol.

Jenocide,

Do you mean changing the quarter note pulse to a triplet pulse, or maintaining the normal pulse but playing in odd groupings of 3?

Perhaps you should start a new thread to explain in greater detail about your ideas. Haha, I'm sure many, including myself are interested to find out more! ;)
