Which guitar with a budget of $1500?!
Looking for a shredder but love single cut looks

1) Schecter C-1 Classic ($1180~)
Likes
-Good stock pickups
-Neck thru design
-24 frets
-Versatility
-Flamed maple cap
-Great hardware!
Dislikes
-Not a singlecut =(
-Not as tried and tested as PRS

2) PRS Tremonti SE ($800 - $900)
Likes
-It's A SINGLECUT!!! I'm nuts about them..
-Looking for creed sound.. probably can swap out stock korean pickups and replace with the tremonti ones with the rest of my budget.
-PRS quality tried and tested
Dislikes
-No coil split
-Set neck with heel
-22 frets
-Dodgy pots and soldering? crackling problems i heard tho easily rectified

I'm open to other great guitars around my budget too.. can do with or without trem.. mahogany body.. arch top and preferabbly singlecut and shred worthy!

*HEADACHE*
Do we need 24 frets that often? I'm really thinking far ahead so is 24 frets a good investment or we really dunt need it?

oh btw.. last one i promise! Vox pathfinder 15r or Smarvo 40 watter 1 x 12

1. Tremonti SE. Easily one of the best singlecut < 1K

2. Smarvo seems to be the better one. But I wld suggest the Cube 30 instead.

i always thought les pauls and similar guitars were shred unfriendly, anyway between the 2, i'd go with the schecter, and between the smarvo and the vox, i've only tried the vox before, so i can't make a detailed judgement

Schecter may not be a well known brand here, but it the states, its one of those brands that give prs a run for the $. If u ask me, u r paying abt 200 more for neck thru sustain, 24 frets(u a shredder rite?), gd pups n nice finish. NOt to forget the v stunning finger board.

Maybe a better comparison wld be btw the C-1 classic n prs CE-22/24. The SE shld be compared with the Schecter Omen. I find its more fair, as u r matching the high end n low end products of the company.

Now the cost r also balanced.

Im just a schecter guy, or maybe a prs guy with not enuf $... hehe

before you choose, make sure the option is available.
Are you sure you can get Tremonti SE now?

Hmm

Hi almondx,

Why don't u try Ibanez? They got good economical shredder-friendly axes (if u dun mind the looks).

yah, i really love the js1000, was trying the clean sounds, wah lau, one of the best cleans i ever heard

Ibanez S520EX :D

If you don't mind that it isn't a singlecut, its a very shreddable axe.

Slim body profile, too.

Blackmoo, you mean this guitar? 8)

The S series is one of the coolest axes around IMO. Very very shredable. :) Plus the 22 fret neck does give you a nicer neck tone as compared to 24 fretters. ;)

Well, moggie, that was a 2002 S520EX, I got it for $1070, after discount.

Now the S520EX is $1800 LIST. Try the S470, its what, $900 or something, one of our guys here, The-Warlord I think, got it recently.

well my opinion is to go test out the guitars. n by the way u can shred on any guitar if u can shred. a guitar does not help u play faster. tho im a prs owner id say go for the schecter. its got better features than the prs se. 24frets over 22. a maple cap. n yes it beats the heel of a prs. practically any neck beats the heel of the prs. well its gd to judge the brand on reputation but neva let it be ur only judgin point. always let ur fingers and ears do the choosing. hope this helps. :D

$1070?? $$$$ 8O

PRS TRemonti SE

just cahnge pickups, ive been hearing bad reviews abou them.

and i say the louder the better so Smarvo!!

I say go for the Tremonti SE. The electronics you can replace with better quality parts when you upgrade the pickups and you can add coil-tapping circuitry while you're upgrading your electronics. I don't know of any singlecut guitars in this price range with 24 frets except for the ESPs. 22 fret singlecuts have that sound LPs are known for because of the body shape and having the neck pickup right under 24th harmonic (which is right where your 24th fret would be).

You can shread on any guitar if you really want to even if it's a LP imo. Zakk wylde comes to mind.
