anyone here knows where i can get my guitar scalloped and the cost of it?? thinking of trying to scalloped a craftsman maple fretboard strat. trying to get the feel of playing a scalloped guitar. any advice from any expertrs is appreciated here. thanks.

well 2 things, pros and cons

D.I.Y.

pros:
its cheaper

cons:
a chnce of overscalloping
uneven scallopng
i scaloped until my e string can get caught under the fret
its very tiring
it takes a long time
time consuming

Send to a shop

pros:

you get ur scallops, and theyre done properly

cons:

its damn expensive, considering ur crftsman strat costs less than $400
GC charges $350 for scalloping a 22 maple fretboard

well, i dun think this helped much, but its still pretty much ur choice

fyi, mi craftsman strat is veri screwed up now, even though i scalloped 2nd fret to 22nd fret

i scalloped my own fretboard also... but i only did it from frets 15-24... can say that its quite tiring.. also u must have the tools..and be prepared to clean up later.. cos its going to get messy....

I suggest you go over to sweelee and request to try the Fender YJM strat, get a feel of scallops, and then decide whether you actually want them done. It's an irreversible process, so if there's something about the feel you don't like, don't do it.

I've got both my Strat and Les Paul scalloped. Full neck. And they play fantastic.

pooo:i think thor sent a webbie tt shows how to diy scallop b4...
tt webbie show 1 must detach the neck then scallop...but since les pauls r set-necks,how did u do it?

i'd also like to scallop the last 4 frets if i hav a guitar...

thanks everyone... but anyone know how much guitar shop cost to scallop? other than gc as mentioned... looks like either i scalloped it myself or save up for the yjm strat.. :D

Does scalloping affect intonation in any way? Would pressing too hard on scalloped frets sharpen the pitch?

Yea, it would

I scalloped my Ibanez on the 12-22 Fret just for the sake of trying it out, and Im not regretting doing that, I diy-ed using sand paper rolled around a pencil/paint brush, tiring though, not really even, but heck, as long I get the feel of it

yeah.. thinking of scalloping the whole neck.... looks tiring and very tedious..guess i put it on hold... thanks everyone,,

Heh, my Les Paul has a bolt on neck. In any case it's not absolutely necessary to remove the neck. Removing the neck only makes it a much easier job, not as messy too.

Here's what it looks like.
