normally when you learn scales do you learn by box shape in all positions and keys or do you just find the root note in the scale box and then transcribe the box to where its supposed to be? is it very vital to know every single note on the fretboard ?

i just find the root note in the scale box and then transcribe the box to where its supposed to be cos i'm jus too lazy to learn all the notes in each key

box shape is easy to remember, but knowing the notes on the frets is important to me also :) Coz u may want to venture out of the scale, or play across boxes. So I learn both

I find that after playing in a particular key for a while, I start to recognize the notes more easily. Hope that helps
