Scales anyone?

Hey guys! I've started playing guitar for quite awhile already. I'm trying to improve my song writing skills tho. I heard scales is essential to the songs you write so i was wondering anyone could possibly teach the basics of scales?

scales is not essential to the songs you write. Ability to come out with nice tune is, scales is essential to explain to people the songs you write.
you go google, diatonic scales, pentatonic scales , blues scales , modes, go find out what are those

This should help you i guess. But this just tell u different scale positions.. not how to use them.
