Sanding down neck.

If it feels sticky or slow you might want to consider smoothening it out slightly.

Upon Goose's advise, I bought some Scotch-brite and used it to run through my neck a few times. It's as smooth as a baby's butt now.

I was kiasu so I bought a few different 'guages' of Scotch-brite to test out. I found that the coarser grey one works the best.

Do not spot-sand, just have it in your palm and run it along your neck naturally. I found that this gave the best results.

Be careful not to over-do it though. You just want to smooth out the stickiness, not to shape the neck.

Hope it helps.

Yeah there are a lot on the website, and it gets a bit confusing. I cannot even find that one that I bought on the website.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, there is but a paltry few to choose from in your local supermarket.

It's gray and it says 'non-scratch' and 'heavy-duty'.

I will snap a picture of it the next time I drop by the supermarket.

But no harm buying a few different ones, they are relatively cheap and you can use them for your pots and pans later on.

(:

Thanks Wolfman, your refering to the fret side of the neck right? If so its absolute spot-on as to what I feel may be making my neck as creamy as I want it to be.

I use 2000 grade sandpaper to sand down. But remember that you only wanna get that satin feel.. not sand away the lacquer..

Fret-side? If you're talking about the back of the neck then yes, haha.

Anyway, I finally found some time to hop by the supermarket and here's the picture as promised.

The one on the left, 'Delicate Duty' scouring pad was the one that I was initially recommended. I found that it was too 'mild', it had little to no effect whatsoever on the finish on my heavily-lacquered neck, even with very vigorous and rapid strokes.

So I went out again to buy the one on the right, i.e 'Extra Heavy Duty' scouring-pad.

Now the 'Extra Heavy Duty' does the job, but please go slow and gentle. As mentioned earlier, just cup it in your hands and rub it along the back of your neck in smooth, even strokes. Make it as natural as possible, as if you are playing the guitar.

Check on the progress every one or two strokes. Take care not to over-do it! It shouldn't take more than a few swipes to get a nice 'satin' feel.
And I repeat, avoid spot-sanding!

Hope it works as well for you as it did for me.

Noooo, I want to sand down the finish on the playing side of the neck abit abit. Is it a feasible idea?? The back of my CIJ's neck seems to have very little finishing over the wood as compared to the fret side. I want my fretting surface to have more touch of wood then the poly or erm whatever was the finish that was used.
