what's the difference between the s470 and the s520ex that accounts for the difference in price? (besides the fact that 470 has an extra single in the center) the review section doesn't compare

hmmmm....
IMO. Not really that BIG. but its subjective. :D

The Ibanez 5 way switching for H H config is extremely versatile.
Allows a H H to get similiar sounds to the H S H.
Similiar is the key word.

Like listen to paul gilbert... he like the in-between positions on his H S H guitar... positions 2 & 4. Its not as biting / quacky on a H H.

If $$ is not an issue, save a bit more go for the prestiege.

hmmm.... i see. thanks! you use s470 right? what's your take on it?

I have a 2002 production S520EX.

Looks like this:

Its different from the current S series in that it has the original Ibanez Edge in it, plus a funky finish that looks like leather.

I think it screams metal so hard, it cracks up! Ho ho ho ho.... *office humor*

I like my Saber. :D

Oh btw.

The Saber wouldn't give you LP tone.

You can put like... a HAS Sound Hellion or a Dimarzio Tonezone in it to make it sound huge (did that before, dual Tonezone in my guitar, comments for neck TZ was, "its ridiculous, way too fat!") but ... its... not the same.

Sabers simply don't have the mass... but it might be good. :)

Its not THAT bassy but it does possess the "richness" (whatever you interpret richness as) of mahogany and it does sound different from say, a basswood RG.

The ZR trem ont he modern models are nice... but I can't stand the ZR system, so I would take it out to make it truely full floating. :P Its very smooth, very nice. Heavy but well, not as bad as some LPs out there.

I like my Saber because its not that heavy but has enough tone.

Of course, all that may change when I finish my new guitar and probably realise my Saber actually sounds horrid and I didn't know what tone is all about in the first place.

haha wow i see!! think i'll just have to try it myself. tried the 470 yesterday. liked it alot... but couldn't get to try the other one. should expect both to be similiar if not identical since the specs are the same

Frankly. I would go for the S470 if I were concerned with versatility and cost.

Looks fine too.

Anyway, do try some SAs out... I like them too... if only they had an Ibanez Edge on them...

was there any review of the S470?

The s470 is really good. Ive tried both at sweelee before. Fantastic guitars. In fact, ialmost got a s520. But i settled myself for a Fender Standard strat(Cash Problems) The main diff i think would be that s470 has a single coil. but the s520 is more expensive!(i think)

I prefer the ibanez edge pro tremolo. The new system(ZR tremolo a.k.a Zero Resistance tremolo(cool name!)) is very smooth and stable.

Check www.ibanez.com for more info. Or just take a trip down to sweelee!

somehow there is.. wif the S520. S470 is mentioned in that thread.

mentioned, not reviewed...

i'm waiting for an Ibanez re-stock before having an official say. i personally feel the S470 has added versatilty, costs less & visually, more appealing.

+1

The S520EX of today, its price is quite shocking actually.

yea maybe it's the finish...

that wouldn't make sense- S520 has a satin finish which is less costly than a lacquered coating, the reason why Faded Gibsons & Fender Highway1s cost less.
