well my friend went and upgrade his guitar, so he left his old one with me hehe. its a yamaha pac 012, not too sure its age, but its pickup is rusty, can i juz sand away teh rusty away? will it affect the sound or something, duno wanna do something stupid lol . also is yamah pac 012m a good guitar? i heard from some pp tat its quite a good guitar? cos im thinking to mod this guitar, gotta draw some anime characters on it

DONT SAND THE PICKUPS!

Don't do anything drastic or introduce liquid to the pickups. Their natural magnetic polarity and focus may be distorted or even ruined. Leave it be, until someone who has experience on rust removal from pickup has his input here.

For myself, If I were you, I'd get replacement pickups.

yes you can sand the rust off but sometimes, there's just too much to do so/ the corrosion is quite bad, it's impossible to sand off. the Yammy Pac 012 is a playable unit, nothing fantastic, nothing bad either. it's only bad when it's unplayable. chances are, it's the player, not the guitar, who is lousy.

erm if i wanna do some drawings on my guitar, what kind of pen should i use? i juz use those pen marker can? i planning to draw some anime char, and remove all the rust on the fret, and pickup. can autosol remove those green stuff one fret? and if i use autosol on the fret, should i use masking tape to tape over the fretboard to prevent the autosol from staining on the rosewood fretboard? will post some pictures, will be up i think next week, this week gotta busy with school

WD40. try to apply only on the rusted areas, not the whole thing.

and yes, it will rust again unless u put a protective layer on the magnetic poles. (which i have no idea where to get the protective liquid.)

personally i don't think derusting pickups will affect tone at all. (maybe unless u derust to the extent that the pole height decreases) so i don't do it.
