Rusty & dusty drumset

Hi guys!

I am a guitarist lovelovelove part time beginner drummer. I have a tama stagestar and i've neglected it for months and it is rusting quite badly with dust covered all over it.

Just wondering..

1) if there's anyway for me to get rid of the rust on the hardware?

2) How often do you all clean your drumset and what do you all use?

Also, due to the rust, my snare also has some trouble with the switching. Any advice?

Thanks alot!

I use metal polish to clean up my hardware. Can easily get the metal polish from HomeFix or NTUC Fairprice at the car section, i believe! Comes in a small tube like UHU glue and should only cost you about 4 bucks? One tube is able to last you for around two drum kits! Take apart your drum kit and polish up everything. Some hard scrubbing should be able to get rid of most of the rust. If any parts are already corroded or the rust has already eaten into the core, i suggest you get them replaced.

I've cleaned my drum kit once and i've had it for around 4 years but i regularly just run a hand towel through the entire kit. What i heard is that the metal polish, after being applied to your hardware, would create a "protective layer" and prevent rust from attacking it for quite some time especially from sweat. Makes me regret not cleaning it up when i first bought my kit. Hahaha!

Also for the snare, you can remove the throw off and clean it up too. I believe there's rust inside that's why it's probably not smooth. Try using the metal polish to polish it first then apply some oil. Should be able to solve the problem!

for dusty drums i usually just dust it off with a feather duster, rust, not really much you can do.. you can try scrubbing but will not guarantee if all of the rust will be removed, oxidation is my main, problem, so after i polish my set, i usually get those "thirsty-hippo" like dehumidifiers to absorb excess moisture around the drums, it does help quite, abit, but naturally, after a long period of time, you might have to polish the hardware again. Repeat procedures is the latter... for best results =)

while it does that, it also microscopically depletes the oxide layer, that forms naturally when air reacts with metal. therefore, your actually reducing the life of ur hardware(so to say) each time you polish, really should consider this before polishing

Hi guys! I tried cleaning it today and i think the rust is too severe. Is it very expensive to change the screws, rims of the toms and snare?

Where can i find such services/parts? Thanks. Would love to change the skins too if there are such services.

I ever replaced small parts from a previous drum-kit I owned.
I bought 'em from Ranking.

parts are subjected to availability tho, screws/tension rods are easily available at ranking/music theme , they sell it in a pack of 6? if my memory serves, so do the math and get how many you require.. rims on the other hand might be a tad pricey tho, at the end of the day it really depends on how much ur willing to spend, to "refurbish" and really think about whether its really worth the while to do so...

just my 2cents =)

* SNAPPY SNARES
* SPURS / SPUR BRACKETS
* TOM BRACKETS / FLOOR TOM LEGS

Any where i can get them besides ranking?
