Hey Guys,

all those answers are good BUT, the best way to remove rust from your hardware depends on how long you have let the rust and dirt accumulate.

The BEST way to prevent rust on hardware and anything chrome is to keep it clean and dry (I understand that is difficult in humid Singapore). Every couple of weeks just go over your gears with a clean rag and remove any built up dust, sweat, etc. (I sometimes use funiture polish).

If you have rust on your hardware all you need is some 0000 grade steel wool from your hardware or DIY store. Just tear a small piece of wool off and LIGHTY rub along the surface and you will notice that you hardware will return as good as new. DO NOT USE SANDPAPER OR ANY OTHER ABRASIVE SURFACE. As it will scratch your gear.

WD40 will not do anything except make everything oily.

Why do I know this? I have tried it all, and I used to restore drums professionally.

But the message here is keep you gear clean and looking COOL and your gear will not rust

GOOD LUCK
