Those who ordered basses/guitars thru Ahkiatt, the instruments have arrived. Sms me at 90178137 to arrange for a pick up.
I ordered an SX '62 PJ bass, thought I do a review of the stock tone/setup. out of box, the intonation was spot on (shocking), the bass appeared pretty well-built. The only thing that was irritating was the condition of the rosewood fretboard. It looks like it just came back from a desert tour, dry beyond recognition. Tonewise, it was surprisingly solid for a $150 instrument. Better than basses 5x its price I've tried at a certain music store in plaza sing. The Jazz pickup, however, generated a slight hiss when volume was cranked up. In summary, the bass exceeded my expectations. To those that read reviews on SX basses on www.talkbass.com, they are every bit true.
I'll post another review after I get the fretboard oiled up and electronics revamped, mayb throw in an SD jazz pickup in the process.
edit: after jamming with it for a night, a few additional thoughts. I ran it through a very basic effects set up, just a Hartke Bass Attack and a Keeley 2 knob clone. For finger style playing, it definitely had the '62 precision flavour in the tone, heavy (can't think of a better word) low end groove type of vibe. Pretty impressive. But I still can't seem to dial in a decent precision slap tone yet.
