Hi there, i have a SX guitar starter pack, which cost v cheap, brought from DAVIS guitar long time ago.

The amp that come with the guitAR really cannot make it.. the distortion like v distort like that, still sound so clean to me.. or isit the guitar also cannot make it?

i plan to get a practice amp for myself, hoping that i can achieve the sound i want. IF not i might as well buy a new guitar too.

i did some research, ROLAND MICROCUBE seems like a good amp for me.

Any inputs from the pros here?

and one more.. where can i get it and the est. price is abt?

THANKS!!!

Maybe you can discribe what kind of sound you want? Because if it is something more than an amp or guitar can offer, changing either wouldn't be a good idea. Effects pedals may be the way to go instead.

hmm sx , both cant make it . but change the pickups and all , it'll work wonders , personally i'd opt to save and then change both guitar and amp , the micro cube is good , but i prefer the marshall . good thing about roland is that there is a lot a built in effects

haha depends on what marshall you're talking about =/

Yupp. Imo, the roland microcube beats the marshall lower series hands down. The microcube is a good buy, very value for money! If I remember correctly, there's a microcube up for sale at the buy/sell section. Or either you can get it at sweelee or allmusic. I forgot the price, but you can give sweelee a call to check it out. ;)

i have a relative using the SX's packaged amp- yes, the default drive's intensity & overall voicing is below par. however, if you hook up an intense distortion pedal, it's very functional.

Yup, a safe logical step would be to get a Boss-DS1 pedal, cheap and good. A lot of people got that as their first pedal when they were newbs and most were satisfied (like me).

But if you can discribe to us in detail what you are looking for, maybe we can point you in a more specific direction rather than a ds-1.

Some questions to answer would be:

What type of distortion? (metal, rock, blues or even a versatile metal-rock-blues-jazz)
Performing out of home in the near future?
Heavily processed effects or simple tone? (some influences would be good)?
Budget?

i am more into rock and blues stuff.. you can say a metal-rock-blues player
No, i think i am still a bedroom player..
Budget.. less than a hundred i guess..

For your stated budget, i would highly recommend a Boss DS-1

http://www.bosscorp.co.jp/products/en/DS-1/index.html

which can be found at Ranking Sports@Bras Basah Complex or Ebenex Music. I don't think Davis, G77 and Luther carry it but other shops around peninsula plaza might. Price would be around $75 to $85. Or if you want to save more money, you can check out the Guitar Buy/Sell forum here. Second hand DS-1 usually go for about $60.

You may want to do some research on the various distortion pedals available before buying one first.
