Rocktron's Big Crush Compressor

I think the next pedal i'm getting would be a compressor. I require a compressor suitable for high output pups. from what i've gathered from here and guitar4christ, i think comp such as the mxr dyna ain't gonnna work well with high output pups

there're about a million and one other compressors out there but i've narrowed my choice down to a boss CS-3 and the rocktron's compressor because any other compressor is beyond my tight budget.

i've check the reviews for the rocktron's pedal on harmony central and 7 out of 7 seemed to give good comments (but then again, its harmony central afterall).. i was wondering if any1 here tried the rocktron compressor before?

hmmm... i don't want a compressor which is limited to making my tone fatter (any fatter and my neck protrack will just mud up)

what i need is something which can compress my sound evenly with a slow roll-off on the trebles. i'd also like a fairly wide range of compression from mild to high compression.

btw, this pedal's for my electric guitar.

this is a rough gauge of what i want so far. i've heard of the randolf mod for cs-3 but i'll reserve that for later cuz i don't really intend to spam a load of cash on something i'm not familiar with yet.

You are already using hi output pups - they are compressed.

I find it weird you want more... but well, if so...

The marshall Ed-1 compressor is a nice little box.


At the end of the day though - Gsonique's Citrus compressor beats them all.

my high output pups are compressed? huh

when i pick lightly, i sound soft, when i pick hard, i sound loud... how is this compressed?

articulation is important to me but i have this problem of picking with inconsistent strength when i pick fast or strum fast weird chord progressions and i don't want my sound to keep weaving in and out of the mix...

When, you said you have hi output pups - the more overwound a pup, the more compressed it becomes.

Its not going to be compressed till you lose all dynamics but when you compare your pups to vintage output pickups you'll feel/hear the difference.

Your problem sounds more technic-based.

Have you tried using a compressor before? When you use one to compress to the point where you can let your picking dynamics sit back note - you will have quite a drastic change in tone & feel. Why? Because you are compressing a LOT!

So you should try to try a compressor 1st... bring a friend who knows how to use them. Its a very very good effect, extremely useful, but often misunderstood or utilised in a way thats... well, not quite right.


The Citrus @ $200 is a great price actually.
