friends

the genre of blues and rock are so closely related that, they are in my humble opinion, siblings.
most of us guitar lovers probably started out learning a few blues based songs before tackling rock songs

so,who are the fretmasters that you may consider as the rocking bluesmen (RB) and who are bluesy rockers (BR)?

let me start

all the thin lizzy guitarists= bluesy rockers
(scott gorham,brian robertson,gary moore,john sykes)

jimi and SRV= rocking bluesman

any others??

blues rocker - richie kotzen, joe bonamassa, robben ford
rocking bluesman - bb king, eric clapton, buddy guy

blues is the father of rock, rather than a sibling. if blues never existed, rock never would have, but not vice versa. that being said slash is a bluesy rocker. jimmy page is a bluesy rocker. clapton is a rocking bluesman. jimi is a rocking bluesman. angus young is a bluesy rocker! chuck berry - bluesy rocker.

not many rocking bluesmen these days. john mayer perhaps, but not so much rocking. more of a bluesy bluesman, like bb king.

care to explained how do you define a bluesy bluesman?

if blues is the father, then who is the mother?hehehe
no hard feelings bro

allow me to explain myself on why blues and rock are siblings

blues itself was derived from African slaves, being shipped to america, working 18 hrs on the cotton fields
a basic blues beat is the Bo Diddley tune-the boogie woogie stomp
blues itself evolutionise when the late Ike Turner-himself an outstanding bluesman, created a tune which was universally accepted as rock n roll.

then we all know the 3 Kings,Jimi,Rolling Stones,Cream etc took it up a notch and now we have all forms of music often termed as rock

so basically Ike Turner wanted to play faster and louder and thus rock n roll was created.in a way, in my own mind, there are siblings-derived from the same form of African roots music

if there is an offspring to a basic form of music, it would be a marriage of 2 distinct forms of music, probably Western classical/pop + Asian exotic melodies=????

it would be like Sufi singers playing in a pop/rock setting, something like Boy George and Asha Bosle, or the Beatles with Ravi Shanker, sufi legend nasrat ali khan

or Chinese wayang in rock/pop context-man, that will be cool!!! i can maybe sell this idea to dick lee

woo king diamond guitarist plays in the blues scale?cool.well music is partially from the evolution of blues so what can anyone say about that.

a bluesy bluesman is one who doesnt play like rocking blues n stuff but just plain good ol blues. i guess. hahaha. well your point on blues and rock being siblings is valid.. but you also state that ike turner wanted to play it faster and louder, and rock and roll was created. from blues lah! hahaha. well all the same. i say that blues is more of the father of rock n roll cos early rock n roll was built on blues. blues shuffle and boogie woogie bassline. simple n sweet.

whatever it is, both are great genres and have done their fareshare to contribute to the music world and spawned several genres! i myself am i great fan of the blues and would like to think of myself to be a rocking bluesman rather than a bluesy rocker. :p
