What does everybody here think about him and his playing? I'm sure most of us agree his famous work was done in Deep Purple but for me, when he was in Rainbow, I thought his guitar playing was in another level.

I just love the tones he gets from his Strat and mind u, his pickups are all single coils and still can rock, composing that guitar shop riff on it..:)

Lets discuss!

..

yeah man, i grew up listening to him..
i was really pleased with all his songs with deep purple and rainbow..
but now, i kinda find his stuffs boring..
i think his band is called blackmore's night or something now..
i think his wife is on vocals..im not sure..

his stuffs are now turning into something u would get to hear in the
the gladiator's era or something..

i dont know, just my opinion..

haha he's now playing some robin hood-era kinda music, hope he gets out from this mood soon...also read somewhere that his wife is 'in control' of his affairs now.

best of ritchie for me is of course the deep purple period, his riffs and solos were killers.

Yup, he plays Renaissance music with his wife, Candice Night but once in a while, he whips out his Strat n plays the riffs that he's famous for and his band will play along. Shows that he has not forgotten his past. U can see the clips on Youtube ;)

u guys dont appreciate his music now ah???

blackmore's night really really made me understand his vast talents. his wife's voice is beautiful also.

Blackmore was described by Gillan as one of the most nimble fingered guitarist ever seen and i have to agree.

It was deep purples burn that made me interested in the classic rock/ hard rock genre.

In rainbow, man on a silver mountain, kill the king, gates of babylon, stargazer, sixteenth century greensleeves and catch the rainbow are unforgettable tunes.

Blackmore has been and still today remains one of my guitar heroes along side randy rhoads and doug alrdich

I have been a big DP fan and like many others grew up with Blackmore.

When DP came to SG in 1991 - Blackmore threw his famous tantrum & walked off stage HALFWAY through Smoke on the Water..... That cemented my dislike of him for his attitude.

Later when my guitar heo Steve Morse joined Deep Purple - I was overjoyed.

None the less - for his musical ability itself ... Blackmore was a master craftsman

Ritchie Blackmore would be the only reason I'd trade my Les Paul for a Strat. 'Nuff said.

Grew up listening to him, and till today, still amazed at his technique of getting such nice sounds out of a single coil.

Long Live Rock N Roll!!!

Ritchie not only able to craft those heavy, guitar-burning rock songs, but he was also able to compose beautiful and melodic numbers, in the later years with Rainbow. When I first listen to Rainbow, it amazes me that it could from as heavy as Gates of Babylon, Stargazer, Kill The King, to the commercially influenced numbers like I Surrender, Jealous Lover, Spotlight Kid.

He's a great guitar wizard with the chops and tone!!

Like a sound that's everywhere, I can hear it screaming through the air... Long Live Rock N Roll..

When DP came to SG in 1991 - Blackmore threw his famous tantrum & walked off stage HALFWAY through Smoke on the Water.....

I remembered that! Joe Lynn Turner then picked up his strat and soloed till the end! Anyway the sound was horrible that night..

While my respect is to him only as a musician,he could have easily been labelled the 'God of Guitar' if not for his famous 'walking off stage' routine, which I and probably many others find just plain ungentlemanly and totally unprofessional.
In short, one probably NEVER liked his personality, I know I don't. But then he is the most COMPLETE guitarist you can ever find.He could be a total speed demon, a mellow and classical emotional instrumentalist, or just plain traditional.
My admiration for him?Only 50-50.I neither like nor hate him.And that's only because he is an undoubtedly great musician.Nothing more.

he has the ozzy osbourne syndrome.

cause he get control by his wife! HA HA

anyway.. yeah i just re listened to his stuff from DP and rainbow just a few weeks back, i think he's definitely one of the defining people in rock music and for metal later on.

Blackmore is one of my all time heroes and I love all of his work, from Purple, through Rainbow (arguably more famous) and now his Blackmore's Night stuff.

In his Purple/Rainbow era the stuff I love most are his riffs that use diads - mainly parallel fourths on the strings 4 5 and 6. He combined these in so many innovative ways and made many, many very catchy riffs from these which are all great for the beginning/intermediate rock guitarist to learn in order to sound very cool almost instantly.

I also love his 'wiry' lead sound. He didn't use a lot of distorition on his leads and has quite a twangy elasticy sound which was quite unique especially coupled with his style which uses lots of hammers and pulls.

Solo on Smoke on the Water is epic Sound and production on Catch the Rainbow is wonderful. Man on the Silvermountain riff is crushing.

Yes, he also has a hot wife.

one of my inspirations next to hendrix that inspired me to get a white strat

No, not malmsteem or any particular softie with that moniker :D
