er just wondering...

what do you SOFT drummers practice on at home, if you are just not rich enough to buy yourself a drumset...

i mean, without a proper drumset, does anyone actually like er, use some household items as substitutes (like pillow o_O), for self practice purposes... the sound will not be correct tho...

just wonderin...thats all, really curious! can anyone enlighten us on what to do if you are just too broke to buy yourself a proper drumset?

haha

peace, jeno

im not that rich yet i still have a complete drumset at my home.
but of course mine is not a brand new and my cymbals are not the high end ones. there's an option. you decide.

yo i got no drumset at home...
can afford anytime, but house too small ah..
3 room flat only....

so wat i do... AIR DRUMS!!!!
hahahaha...
but usualli i always airplaying the bass ah... esp double bass drum beats...

and yeah, got myself a practice pad to practice all those rudiments, compliments from killerbee... hahahahah

i see, air drumming...

yea, i used table, pillow, my borther's head as highhat8O

but just hope you guys have a great time practicing!

I hope jenocide wasn't playing heavy metal

What I did before I got a kit:

1. Pillows/cushions as toms
2. Telephone book / text book as snare
3. Take a chair, turn it so the back faces you, put slightly to the left and that can be the hi-hat

4. Layout nicely
5. Play

By the way Jeno, you don't have to be 'rich enough' to buy a drumkit as 2nd-hand sets can be had for pretty affordable prices ($200+ to $400+), you just have to be patience and check out places like luthermusic/soft ads frequently.

Let's say you aim for a $400 budget, that only requires you to save $33 a month and you'll be ready to get one in a year. Break it down further, you only have to save $1.20 a day!

when i was sec1, was really poor lah. i used phone books..and air drumming. air drumming kinda works for me. then go myself a practice pad.

i use my sofa =X it happened to be those black plastic-y "leathery" kinda material so there's a slight rebound for my strokes and de diff sounds whn i hit diff places give me a gd-enough feel. well maybe im just lucky to have tt sofa

back when i was sec1, i was in concert band.
the instructor had us do warm ups and stuff... on canteen tables.
So that was like my pre-kit "what did you play on"

1973 - Played chopsticks on wooden stools. Broke many chopsticks.

1985 - Owned a Dixon practice kit.

1987 - My first cymbal... Sabian HH 10" splash

1991 - My current Pearl 3.5" brass free floating snare

1993 - My current kit - Purecussion

2007 - My ultimate setup...
