YES FOLKS! IT'S ON! RIA-REMIX, the band competition that test your creativity in performing a song outside its original genre! Organised by Ria 89.7FM and supported by Central CDC.

Bands are to creatively cover songs in the following genre only:



1. Ska/Reggae
2. Hip-hop/Rap/R N B
3. LOUD ROCK – Punk Rock, Glam-Rock/Metal, Progressive Rock/Metal, Heavy Metal, Speed Metal,Thrash Metal, Black Metal, Death Metal, Hardcore Punk, Crusty Punk, Grindcore, Emocore, Metalcore, Math-Metal/Mathcore, Pop Punk, RapRock/Nu-Metal, Alternative Rock / Grunge, Britpop/Brit-Rock, Industrial Metal, Ethno-Metal.
4. Bands may also choose to creatively cover the song in a hybrid form i.e. a mixture of these categories.

PRIZES

1ST PRIZE: $2 000

2ND PRIZE: $1000

3RD PRIZE: $ 500

7 consolation prizes : $100 per band



Open to both professional (bands who have recorded and released materials) and non-professional bands (teenagers starting out).



Open to Singaporeans, and foreigners, aged 15-35.



Registration fee is $25.

Closing date of registration is Thursday 23rd November 2006, 5pm.





1st preliminary: RIA-REMIX@CLAP 2nd December 2006, Toa Payoh near Toa Payoh library ( 25 bands, 10 will be selected for SMS phase )

2ndpreliminary: RIA-REMIX@CLAP 9th December 2006, Ang Mo Kio Central amphitheatre ( 25 bands, 10 will be selected for SMS phase )

SMS Phase for Final Selection ( 20 bands ): 11th December to 15th December 2006, 12pm.

SMS Phase for Final Round ( 10 bands ) : 18th December to 22nd December 2006, 12pm.

Final : RIA-REMIX FINAL, The Pavillion, Far East Square, 24th December 2006, 8pm.

i heard sum bands out there fusing up Trip-Hop Metal version of 1 of Siti Nurhaliza's songs and a Malay version of song from BEYOND.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

1. It is a band competition with a difference, organised by Ria 89.7FM, a station of MediaCorp Radio, and supported by Central Singapore CDC. Bands are to creatively cover a song, by performing that song outside its original genre. Examples:

Can’t Help Falling in Love – UB40

2. Bands are to play the cover songs in the following genre only:

Bands may also choose to creatively cover the song in a hybrid form i.e. a mixture of these categories.

3. Bands are allowed to perform English or Malay songs.

CRITERIA FOR PARTICIPATION

4. Open to both professional (bands who have recorded and released materials) and non-professional bands (teenagers starting out).

5. Open to Singaporeans, and foreigners, aged 15-35 by 31st December 2006.

6. Band members should not exceed 8 members in a band.

7. Registration fee is $25 (non-refundable) and is payable on the day of briefing before the preliminary round.

8. Immediate family members of Mediacorp Radio stations’ staffs are not permitted to participate in this competition.

9. Closing date of registration is Thursday 23rd November 2006, 5pm. All completed registration forms must be returned to MediaCorp Reception, Caldecott Broadcast Centre or e-mailed to burhan@mediacorp.com.sg or sharifah@mediacorp.com.sg

JUDGING CRITERIA

9. Bands will be judged on a. creativity b. entertainment value and c. musical proficiency.

10. Bands will have to perform one song from a list of songs suggested by Ria 89.7FM . Alternatively, bands can also suggest to Ria the songs they want to perform but subject to Ria’s approval. (see Appendix 1 ) Bands may have the option to retain the same song or change to another one if they proceed to the final.

11. Songs performed should not exceed 3 minutes in the prelims and 5 minutes in the final. Bands that exceed their playing time by 90 seconds will have their points subtracted.

12. SMS Percentage: SMS percentage for the 20 bands selected for the SMS stage is 30%, while the remaining 70% comes from the judges’ score from the prelims. For the final round, SMS percentage for the 10 final bands is 30%, acquired during the SMS stage before the finals, while the remaining 70% comes from the judges’ score for the prelims. Ria 89.7FM will air 30 second clips of bands that make it to the next stages to facilitate SMS voting.

13. Judges’ decisions are final. No appeals of any sort will be entertained.

BAND DISCIPLINE AND REQUIREMENTS

14. Band members are to bring their own hand-held instruments eg guitars, bass, etc. Equipments such as instrument amplifiers, drums set, percussions, keyboard and monitors will be provided.

15. Bands are to inform Ria 89.7FM if they need special requirements and it’s up to Ria’s discretion to accede to that request.

16. Bands should be professional enough to ensure the operational readiness of their handheld equipments eg. guitars/bass/keyboards/ before performance. This includes tuning guitars before they perform.

17. Bands are to ensure their punctuality. No requests of postponement of performance will be entertained unless due to valid reasons. Ria 89.7FM reserves the right not to accede to bands’ requests for postponement.

18. Bands are not allowed in any circumstance to cause damage to the equipments on stage. Any acts of such nature will render automatic elimination.

19. Ria 89.7FM reserves the right to disqualify any bands who deliberately gave false information regarding their personal particulars.

20. Ria 89.7FM reserves the right to change any of the clauses stated above without prior notice.

woah, i have to say that the choices are pretty hard. i would like to see a r&b/hiphop metal-ed up.

not that i want to spoil the competition but if you guys can get the chance to listen to a good 'livin' la vida loca' metal-ed up cover, it will be from this band called 'Black Ingvars'.
