Republicans and Conservatives.

I want to know more about the Republicans and the Conservatives. Not that I'm particularly smitten with the United States, but I just feel as a history student, I need to learn about these parties. If that's even what they are. I have to admit that even though I see these terms i.e Republicans/ Conservatives over and over in the papers, I never really had a through understanding about them.

Before any flames me, I tried googling/yahoo-ing the various terms. I also tried Wikipedia, but was unable to derive any definitive explanations or any distinctly enlightening articles to increase my understanding.

So can anyone tell me what do the Republicans and the Conservatives stand for, what are their aims, ambitions. What is so different about them, what sets them apart. What makes them rivals. What about the Democrates? Advocates of democracy? That simple?

Anything man, anything.

Thanks in advance.

for one..

johnny ramones is a conservative..

joey ramones is a liberal sumthing...

look up their bios and u can see what these terms really means...

Well, Republicans' main goal is to strive for a smaller Government. Most Republicans are seen as Conservatives by the Media. However, a Republican isn't necessarily a Conservative. For example, Mike Huckabee claims himself to be a conservative based on the ridiculous fact that he dines with his family. Conservative is also a way to attract votes as most Americans believe in a traditional Government system.

However, if you look at the 2008 Elections' Republican's views, you'd find most of them nonsensical. Take immigration. Most Republicans are xenophobic, to put it bluntly and out of all 6 remaining candidates, Ron Paul is the only one who is against the Iraq War. The other 5 candidates see victory in Iraq as essential. Personally, I don't see why Ron Paul is getting so many votes. Social Darwinism is what Ron Paul's economic views are, he wants to eliminate the energy department and supports drilling into the wildlife refuge. Accused the FDA and strives to completely abolish health care, and is xenophobic. Furthermore, there is an aritcle I found regarding Ron Paul which is quite hilarious in my opinion. http://www.shoutmouth.com/index.php...ns_Ron_Paul_is_the_Emo_Presidential_Candidate

My ratings for the remaining candidates for Week 7 -

It's obvious which side I am on. Health care should be emphasized, you'd understand if you see how expensive private medical fees are in USA, the middle-classed people can barely support it with their wages. And what Bush earns in one day is more than what middle-class working people earn in a year. The best solution is to cut down the taxations, provide public medical care and health insurance, stop drilling into the wildlife refugee and invest in higher standard fuels. And most importantly, stop the Iraq War.

Message me for a video on the Smoking Gun Scandal. It is quite pathetic of the USA and Britain to team up and use artificial intelligence (possession of mass weapon of destruction) as an excuse to extract large amounts of oil resources to gain fortune.

It's amazing how some people still supports Bush.

There you go, my 2 cents worth.

to quote chris rock:

"republicans are idiots, democrats are idiots, liberals are idiots, conservatives are idiots, anybody who makes up their mind about an issue before listening to it is a ****ing fool."

wise words.

Wise words? If you put it that way, then everybody's idiots. Objectivity does not exist. If nobody makes up their mind about an issue before listening to it first, then there won't be anything to listen to.

Hell with Chris Rock. Think logically for yourself.

Thanks for the inputs.

yy_fuctup,

Thank you for shedding light on the various factions, and also for injecting your personal views and insights. I've learnt quite a lot today, but I won't be taking sides for the moment.

No problem, love. If you need any specific information, I'd be glad to extend my help as far as possible.

I'm quite untaught in the field of politics, hence you can rely on Youtube and BBC more so.

There are 2 major parties in the US now, the Repulicans (they call themselves the GOP, or Grand Old Party) and the Democrats (which are actually older than the "Grand Old Party" xD).

From what I know, Republicans are generally conservative, they generally prefer to concentrate moreon domestic issues than international issues, they generally stick to conservative ideas like family, saying no to abortion, not legalising same-sex marriage, and all that stuff that the PAP doesn't want us to do too.

The Democrats are more liberal, which is not the same as "forward-thinking" as some might think. They prefer doing things the more modern way (or some would say adventurous), and they're generally more open-minded. I ain't too sure exactly how the Dems work, they're kinda flip-flopping on their issues, like the Iraq war (Hillary Clinton mentioned on 2002 that she supported the war, now she's saying the Bush Govt was wrong in engaging in it, the same govt which she said in 2002 was doing the right thing.)

I dunno 'bout you guys, but if I was a Democrat, the only guy I'm rooting for is Barack Obama, but the guy I really hope wins the Presidential Elections is...

Ron Paul.

I ain't gonna preach about him here, there are hundreds of sites which can do that for me, just check out his youtube vids and you'll see why he's an internet phenom.

BTW, I'm not rooting for him just because everybody else is doing the same, I really really think that he's the ONLY Republican who's goals and ideals make sense.

Mike Huckabee winning the Iowa caucuses were a huge joke.

Noooooo. Not Ron Paul.

Ron Paul's the Emoh candidate of this year.

I'd go with Mike Gravel any time, his speeches are really motivating. Barack Obama would be my second choice. Followed by John Edwards.

I agree that Mike Huckabee is a big joke, have you seen the video featuring Chuck? Perhaps Huckabee's aims are to make a fool out of himself.

Regarding Hillary Clinton and the Iraq War, you can't judge the Democrats just based on her. Obama, Edwards and Gravel started opposing the Iraq war since 2000 - 2002. I don't like Hillary Clinton particularly. Where as the Republicans support the Iraq War, claiming that triumph would be a must. Besides Ron Paul of course.

However, Ron Paul is still a xenophobic and disapproves of immigrants.

I see you're a Democrat follower xD. After what a certain bush has done to the party, I normally wouldn't have gone Republican, but Dr. Paul has somehow caught my heart. The reason why he's so popular with the "emo kids" is that one of his major issues is extremely youth-centric (youths = <35 yrs of age), he's gonna allow the younger people to get out of Social Service, which is a very very good thing. AND he's gonna do away with the IRS. (In the US, their income tax is set at 50% IIRC)

If I was American, I don't want to receive only 50% of my hard-earned salary just to make sure those who aren't working get a basic payout. Sure, there are legitimate poor people who survive on Social Security because they can't find a job, but there are others who are plain slobs feeding off SS because they are too lazy to get a job.

And he's not xenophobic lololol, he just doesn't see why ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS get the same rights as American citizens the moment they manage to sneak into american soil. Can you imagine that in Singapore if some Illegal Immigrant can get CPF and all the stuff usually reserved for Singapore Citizens get the moment they land on Singaporean shores?

I apologise if I was too sweeping on the Dem party with the Hillary Clinton remark, every party has their black sheep (we have Giuliani xD). Barack's speech after winning the Iowa Caucus was downright inspiring, if Ron Paul doesn't get the Republican nomination (which I think will happen sadly, but I'll support him all the way) and if some hickey like Huckabee gets the party's nomination, I'm going Democrat to support Obama. :D

EDIT: Mike Gravel, that guy's another Ron Paul, as in the media likes to pick on him as some joke. Looks like the American media is as good as MediaCock when it comes to politics.

Thing is, I reckon Ron Paul would get the Republican nomination. Most people support him, love.

Well, John Edwards did mention about tripling the Earned Income Tax Credit too. And so did Mike Gravel talk about cutting military expenditures and spending them on children and families instead. So does most of the other Democrats. Hence Ron Paul is not the only one. Ron Paul also states to deny the illegal immigrants' children citizenship even if they are born in U.S.A. They are children, they can't choose where they are born. That is quite unjust.
