Removing the rust from my pickups

My ibanez humbucker screw (pickup magnets) already has rust.
Anyone know a safe way to clean them?

Thanks.

dont bother? the rust doesn;t affect sound in anyway. if its for cosmetic reasons, you can try scraping the rust off i suppose. or just change pickups.

just use fine sandpaper. it'll get the rust off. it wont really affect the tone of ur guitar so no worries about that.

oil and wax would wear out quick right? Cuz we tend to rub it while playing at times.
i mean something a little more permanent. Like clear coat or something.
That doesn't effect the pickups performance or spoil it completely.

There is this rust remover selling at Homefix I think, brand should be Rayon. It removes the rust pretty well and forms an invisible coat of protection on the metal parts after that. But depending on the degree of rust, sometimes it would leave a black spot on the rust area.

I've tried Rayon on one of my old amp's metal parts before. The thick black residue left behind can be quite a pain if you're not expecting it. It really isn't that easy to remove.

For removing rust off the pickup screws, you might want to consider using a fine grade sanding block (300 grit and above), before using progressively finer grit to finish off the job. That's what I do for my pickup screws when rust forms and it works fine.

Hmm.

If you want you can try a very tedious but fool-proof method:

Just tape up the pickups, cut out the holes and sand down the pickup poles.

Then if you can, just give it a thin coat of lacquer to stop it from rusting all over again.

not sure if you noticed bout the date of some threads, its 5 years old thread and most fellas are no longer active in the forum...

welcome to the forums here btw. Hehe, its been quiet and slow round here, but still can start new thread and have new discussion, bumping old threads usually quite funny as the date of reply usually indicate too big a difference which somewhat made some think about what happen in between.
