Recording with Mic-In

hey there

i have an ASUS F80Q that only has a headphones and mic-in jack, no line-in.

i want to be able to record my electric guitar from the amp (LANEY HCM30 with headphones + external amp output) with all my effects with the least noise possible.

so how exactly do i go about doing this? the last time i tried connecting my guitar directly into the mic-in jack with volume boost on, something weird happened (not sure what..). suffice to say, it wasn't good..

what are the precautions that i need to take in order to ensure i cause no physical harm to my laptop, and at the same time get the best possible sound quality from my rig.

thanks

Although the Mic In sounds kinda dangerous, you might be able to pull this through by adjusting the recording level. Go to the Sound Control Panel and lower the Recording level.

Also, lower the output from your amp to minimal.

Monitor with a headphones connected to the notebook.
