Hi everyone

i planning to do some recording biz, helping client to record their own voice into their minus one favourite artist song as a package just for themselves. Do i need to get any copright for the minus one cd i used for the client? I had ask Compass & IRAS. They throwing questions here and there. I feel confused. Anyone here know? Tks u so much.

If you are charging people then you would cirtainly have to pay some kind of copyright license. Sounds like it would fall under the KTV type of license to me

hey shawn, yes, you need to pay some copyright license thing I believe. i recall one of the KTV/kbox or something have their own recording studio for this kind of minus one recording, and they already have the "license" to every song to their advantage.

i wonder is it possible to make the client sign a contract whereby they're the ones held responsible for getting the license/permit from compass etc and the recording engineer is not liable. because seriously I once recorded a "cover" without knowing (the band didn't tell me it's a cover, they just tell me "we have 1 song") it was done by someone else.
